Treliving manages the team and if he is okay with higher numbers I am sure Burke will let
It be so.
Burke wants to put his stamp on the Flames and so far his biggest and brightest stamp is Brad Treliving . I think Brian is happy with how BT wants to run his team, numbers be damned.

Coming to a head?
It comes to a head every off season and training camp for Burke and his number issue but then guys just shuffle numbers around and it fits. Burke might change his stance if Treliving doesn't care and won't push it but this summer is no different then any other.

I like the number policy for a couple reasons.
I find it aesthetically more pleasing. I always make my EA teams have numbers pretty much in line with Burke's policy.
I really, really like the "getting a team-number" aspect of it. I have no idea what effect it would or wouldn't have on a professional athlete, but I just think it's cool that—when you're on the Calgary Flames—you get a number letting you know you've made the team.
I support the low-number policy, though I'd be fine with pushing it up to 40, as I do think 39 would look awesome on Bennett.

I like the number policy too, but I would like to see the available numbers expanded to let's say 59 and start officially sealing off some of those jersey numbers like 12 and 14, deal with the number shortage as well as deal with players traded mid season, trading block players and FA players hopping on board.
I like certain numbers being training camp/temp numbers too (ie: 60+). That being said though, it gets weird if you keep your training camp number into the regular season and do well. Do you lose your number? Pretty sure the Barts 47 to 27 thing didn't fly that well.

Retire 12, 14, or whatever number or after a few seasons or make it available.
Theoren hasn't played in Calgary since 1999. Anyone remembering #14 on the ice is going to be mid to late 20s at the younger range.
Posters saying high numbers look weird is weird itself. Times change gramps!

I kind of liked it when Brodie wore #66 for a while and everybody in Pittsburgh got their noses out of joint.

Burke's policy on higher numbers is neanderthal.

I think that Burke will change his policy to allow numbers 1-40. Bennett will wear 39 and Frolik finds a new number.
Personally, I don't understand why Burkie cares. If a guy wants to wear 47, 54, 67, 93 or something else why say no? If he feels he'll play better with a higher number, or feels more comfortable in it, let the man wear his number!

I'd be more comfortable with players who don't believe something like a number will impact their play.

I kind of like "traditional" numbers, if such a thing exists. Basically anything under 35. But it's really not a big deal for me.
Players are superstitious, and confidence has everything to do with playing well. If a guy feels like he plays awesome wearing # 62, go for it I say.
Burke's style isn't very traditional, why doesn't KK say something?

I like the rule. Thought it was another "we aren't going to be like Edmonton" type call where young players can come in and think just because they are highly touted they should have be handed a job and high number indicating they are the next Gretzky or Lemieux
That being said wouldn't care if they got rid of it as long as the underlying culture of always earned never given remains.

Too late. But we can trade Jones and give him 19.

If numbers 1-99 are available by NHL rules then it should be available.
Complaining about high numbers is just plain stupid.

KK wishes he could say something but this is all very complex, lots of moving parts, and very ambitious. We will all love what the Flames do with numbers though.

1-98 technically (some guy from Edmonton got the #99 removed from availability)

I guess I see it coming to a head because they have a high priced veteran UFA signing that has always wore 67, and a top end rookie that needs to change numbers and has always worn 93
The Baertschi's and Ferland's and Jooris' don't really have the pull to make it come to a head.

If they made Jones switch from 54 they will probably make Frolik switch from 67. I like the policy. I think part of the culture problem in Edmonton is that they let a bunch of 18 year old's pick their vanity numbers right out of the gate
