Is there more insightful conversation to be had?

"Gee I sure hope nothing happens to my favorite subreddit that centres around people posing plush animals in embarrassing situations!"

The fact that Reddit exists in the state it has for the last ~8 years is a blight on the internet in general, and it's numerous useful subreddits do nothing to wipe out the stench of it's vast amount of awful/grotesque/pathetic ones. While I'm sure many government agencies are happy to have so many pedophiles collected in a single observable area at once, it's not really something that belongs alongside insightful discussions into 16th century architecture.

I'll switch gears by saying Imgur (being a byproduct of Reddit) has become almost as insufferable and gross as Reddit now, and August's Camp Imgur is going to be one of the most cringeworthy events since the last Gathering Of The Juggalos, except with less nudity and more awkward photos.

No kidding.

You've made your opinion extremely clear, Psycnet. If you could let the grown-ups have an adult conversation now, that would be great.

Boy are they in for some hard, frustrating work then. But if the rumours of Pao et al really wanting to monetize IAMA is true, this will also set up serious conflict.

Can't blame them though, especially not after n0thing's flippant comments that he is seriously regretting today.

He said with absolutely zero sense of irony while defending the existence of a site still frequently used to trade child porn and stamp down women's rights.

Ok, we get it.

You have a black & white view of reddit and are hell bent on informing everyone that you see absolutely zero redeeming qualities. At this point your simply parroting the same points over and over again.

Did everyone get that? There is indefensible stuff on Reddit that PsYcNeT absolutely doesn't want anyone to forget about. Are you into photography or hockey? Too bad, there's bad stuff on Reddit and PsYcNeT needs you know about it and how disgusted he is by it.

Interested in discussing the latest flare up on Reddit? Too bad, because PsYcNeT needs you to know that reddit is a cesspool of filth, and don't you forget it.

No one is defending the indefensible aspects of reddit, but it's a high traffic site and the filth is but a part of the discussion.

td;dr: PsYcNeT hates reddit.

Psycnet doesn't like reddit? Huh. He's incredibly subtle about it. I haven't seen it. At all.

Hey it's been at least 2 years since I last got mad about Reddit.

Also I don't know how anyone here can call themselves socially progressive while directing traffic to a site that hosts subs like r/coontown, r/mensrights, r/redpill, or r/darknetmarkets.

And for every instance of filth and ugliness, there's creation and kindness. It would be incredibly ignorant to generalize the entirety of Reddit as this idea. There is such an eclectic range of sub forums, ideas, themes, and people from all walks of life who find their way onto a site like that.

We've had our own problems here at Calgarypuck with racism, bigotry and hate. Does the fact that it has, or still currently exists, mean that us as a community should all be lumped into that generalization?

They aren't monsters, they're people. A wide range with different background and ideas. For every racist or bigoted sub-forum, there are those that encourage inclusiveness and kindness.
How you want to choose to view them comes down to you.

Yeah those Reddit admins, powerless to shut down disgusting subreddits, just like those powerless CP admins that have never banned a horrible racist before.

Then I guess it comes down to you if you want to search for those ideas or people. Because those exist in some capacity, that defines the entire site and community?

I can definitely see how the powers-that-be would want to make things a little more commercial at the expense of the dedicated community.
They could easily make money.

Pay to have your thread on top of a certain sub reddit.

As for reddit itself, it took a while to figure everything out and get used to the layout, but I visit it more than Twitter now.

It has something for practically every different interest one might have. I pretty much get all my news there.

For someone who despises reddit so much, you sure have an intimate knowledge of how it works, and what's on it.... just sayin'.
