Cody...I can't even RECALL seeing St. Louis as a Flame...of course, when he DID play for you, nobody had satellite, and half the Blackhawk games were blacked out on Chicago TV! So I obviously MISSED his entire Calgary career!
Edit: Looking back at the stats, a 4-16-20, over parts of 2 seasons, guy, wouldn't have made much of an impression on a Non-Flame fan, at the time.

For an undrafted guy, who was told he was too small for the NHL he certainly proved a lot of doubters wrong.
Hobey Baker finalist, Stanley Cup winner, numerous NHL awards and scoring titles and Olympic Gold Medalist.
He had a pretty phenomenal career and I hope he enjoys his retirement.

He had 52 points in 74 games. You're telling me he couldn't play another couple seasons? Hard to believe.
Maybe he doesn't want to end his career fizzling out statistically as it appeared he was finally trending down, at least by St Louis standards. Odd way to bow out of the game, still.

To be fair, at the time he probably didn't make much of an impression on most Flames fans either.

I'm sure he wanted to stay and play in NY but NY did not want him back.

Solid numbers when you consider no one puts up a ton of point on the Rangers. If he played in Tampa still I could easily see him being 65+.

I think what happened is he only wanted to play in New York and was told they would not bring him back. He was very enthusiastic about continuing playing a few weeks ago.

Definitely will be inducted into the hall of fame, and deservedly so - but that doesn't mean I have to like him either.
Didn't he also borderline badmouth the Flames when he won the cup with Tampa, saying something similar to "Feels good to win against the team that didn't give me a chance" or something similar? Calgary was the only team that gave him a chance, and when he wasn't working out, put him on waivers upon which every other team passed him up.
The recent Team Canada fiasco was definitely showcasing his personality.
Yep, illustrious career, and he deserves to be in the HoF, but I will still continue to dislike him.

He wasn't here long; a half of a season iirc. I do remember seeing him play in Flames colours though. It seemed like he did nothing, then floated around, and then grabbed the pick deked through three defenders and rang a shot off the crossbar. I thought, "Why doesn't he do that all the time?" Later in his career, he did, setting off countless can-you-imagine-if-we-kept-St. Louis? talks.
That he will never play for the Blues is tragic; like when Doug Vancouver spent his whole career in Hartford.

LOL are people still bitter over 04? It was 11 years ago, get over it. We'll get our cup soon. Anyhow back on topic: Marty definitely did some stuff that made me dislike him a bit over the past couple years, but you can't deny that he was one hell of a player. A definite hall of famer. Anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves.

Let me guess, you are 20 or younger?
Tampa can go #### themselves, I hope they never win anything ever again. I'm glad Chicago beat them, and I hate Chicago.

I definitely don't have the same hate for him like most do here. Him worming his way out of Tampa and whining his way onto Team Canada is annoying, but he was a hell of a player. One of my favorites to watch in his prime

He has the terrible management of the Flames in the mid to late 90's to thank for it all.
Without the Flames being so poor, he would've never gotten the chance to be on an NHL roster. I believe he once said as much, but then later, of course, said the Flames gave up on him. Truth is, no one wanted him when the Flames took a chance on him for Saint John, nevermind a crack at an NHL roster. He was that close from being done if it wasn't for the Flames taking a chance on a way too small fringe forward.
With him now done and Giguire last year, gone are the last two remnants that fans foolishly pointed to as Flames that got away. Truth is, both got a sniff because of the Flames, and through continued hard work, and a lot of luck, they moved their careers forward after leaving here.
Back to St. Louis, first for his claim the Flames gave up on him, and then, to take his ball and go home (and demand that he gets traded to only one team) over Yzermans perceived Olympic snub after so many years in Tampa, delicious that Yzerman and his team cash in with the returm, and then beat the Rags in St. Louis' last game.

I will never get over it. Single most painful memory as a Flames fan. Easily.

How many Cups do the Flames win if they have a top line of St. Louis - Savard - Iginla from 2002 to 2010?
At least one.

"I have been blessed to play for 16 years in the NHL; it has been an amazing ride. I would like to thank the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers organizations and owners for providing me the opportunity to play the sport I love for so many years. I could have never played for so long or accomplished all that I have without the unwavering love and support from my wife, Heather, our three sons, Ryan, Lucas, and Mason, and my parents."
— Martin St. Louis after announcing his retirement from the NHL on Thursday
-----
I find it interesting that he neglects to mention the Calgary Flames.
