If you told me that we would come out of this draft with hannifin/provorov/werenski and in addition add kylington.. I would have asked you to give me some of what you're smoking.
Sub in Hamilton who is what one of those top 3 D has a potential to may e become.. Leaves me thinking What kind of sorcery did treliving pull off??
We got the best D today and maybe a shot at the best 2 D in the future.
All the other picks are gravy.
My feedback/rating:
A++ "if we were in prison I'd protect you in the shower"
Addressed big holes on D at the NHL and prospect level.
Yeah they didn't address RW, but you don't fix all organization problems in one draft.
As for who they picked after the 2nd round... not sure how anyone can have much of an opinion either way, lists differ so much and there is a high probability that they don't make it as NHLers anyways.
And that 0.1 is only for the mild panic attack we all had to go through for 5-10 minutes waiting to hear what the flames had to give up for Hamilton yesterday. I was so worried Bennett would be involved. I was even worried someone like ferland would be involved.
I was absolutely floored to find out that Treliving was able to pull this off without giving up any young roster players or prospects. It's unreal. And then picking up some more high upside defencemen in the 2nd round was just gravy.

I was hoping for 3 Dmen in our first 6 picks prior to the Hamilton trade, all of which had some offensive upside and playmaking skill. Well, we got those 3 Dmen, and all is good. Had my eyes on Zboril for our 15 OA pick, but he would have went to Boston. Hamilton is equal to a top pick, imo, and getting Kylington at 60th was lucky, as he was ranked by many in the 1st round, so we did good there too.
Like the lower round forwards as well, and if they don't contribute to the NHL, they will be great for our AHL team (unless Karnaukhov goes to Russia, but hate to bring that up so early in his tenure as a flame prospect, haha).
Hamilton: Probably better than anyone they would have got with any of the picks they gave up for him. Good trade: how good depends on what Hamilton does as a Flame. At worst, a solid move to fill an organizational need. At best, an act of highway robbery that will haunt Don Sweeney for years to come.
Andersson & Kylington: A couple of boom or bust picks. Very unlucky if neither of them plays in the NHL in some capacity.
Karnaukhov, Mangiapane, & Bruce: 95%+ chance that we'll never hear from any of these guys again. >5% chance that one of them will make it the NHL and people will wonder why they fell so far on draft day.
Overall, a good performance. Shored up their defense, which was an weakness all of last season. That some of them are right handed shots is a bonus. No right wingers, but the Flames have lots of depth at centre. It's much easier to move centres to the wing than vice versa. Would have been perfect if they could have somehow come out with a goalie, but you can't solve all your problems in one day. 8/10
Any time you can get a player like Dougie Hamilton through the assets you have at the draft, you've won. The two swede defensemen were also a major coup even though they have holes to fill. I only wish we had held on to a couple more picks overall, but the quality of talent we added was very good. A-.

Our top 5 d is incredible. Imagine our playoff roster on D plus Giordano and Hamilton. Very promising. This is why trading people like Sven or Glencross makes sense.
Our prospect pool on the back end seems full of possibility. If 1-2 of Rafikov, Hickey, Morrison, Kylington, or Andersson turn out, we'll be on very good shape behind our young core of Brodie and Hamilton.

Addressed the D issue in spades. Would have liked to see the RW issue addressed in some form, but very happy with the end result. This team is looking freaking scary if they run with the youth and it continues to step up. Can't wait for next season!
Picking up Hamilton is crazy awesome. 10/10.
Drafting 3 D-men with 4 picks was overkill, IMO. 6/10.
Not addressing our lack of RW depth even though there werent many RWers available. 6/10.
Picking up Andersson and Kylington with late 2nd round picks. 10/10.
Not picking Ryan Pilon. 10/10.
Off the bat I wanted Pilon, but I read more into his off ice/daddy issues and wanted to part of him. Not even with a 7th round pick.
All in all. 8.5/10. Solid draft despite its deficiencies.
