Does anyone have a screenshot of Chiarelli's face just after the trade was announced?
It was so red... like he knew he got fleeced but had to make the trade anyways.

almost seemed like Chia knew that missing on Hamilton was a big miss, so he made a similar trade with the best Dman name he could find

Reinhart is over rated and won't be near the hockey player Hamilton is.. poor Oilers.

I wouldn't think this is a bad trade but it sure looks like it when compared to the Hamilton fleece

Underwhelming junior numbers that got worse the two seasons after getting drafted (played 5 WHL seasons and his best season was his draft year (36pts in 58 games). Then he goes to the AHL and doesn't impress (22 pts in 59 games, -13)
Then up to the NHL and was underwhelming. (1 PT in 8 games)
He certainly could be a player, but there's nothing statistically suggesting it. He was never going to be a point producer, but it's gotta be a bit discouraging up to this point. He did captain a memorial cup winner, and has been praised for his defensive game though.

Good trade for the Islanders as it's clear Reinhart was a depreciating asset and probably wasn't going to make the team next season further devaluing him. Because he was drafted 4th overall he's going to get every chance possible to play in the NHL but his ceiling is 2nd pairing and his game is pretty unremarkable. I know we have a Reinhart but there's something with those boys as they just seem to lack that fire.

I haven't seen him much but in limited viewings his foot speed was a serious issue. Interesting to see if it holds him back or not. Obviously I prefer our deal quite a bit.

Trading a first and a second for the equivalent of a Tyler Wotherspoon? I would be insanely happy if the Flames got that for Wotherspoon. What a weak trade.

I think this trade will have to be evaluated based on whether a top pairing dman can be acquired before the season starts. If not then this is yet another rebuilding year and with each passing year then the cap starts to be more of a problem for the oilers. While the Hawks just won the cup with their "core" players on significant (non-entry) contracts, it is much more challenging.
Trading two prime assets and not acquiring either of their major holes (top pairing dman or a goalie) is likely to be problematic. That's really where you evaluate this trade as a problem. The competition continues to get stronger and look to be addressing their perceived gaps. Are the oilers today better than the team that finished the season? Probably only marginally despite adding a generational talent as top six talent wasn't what was keeping them from winning.

I thought Snow just gave up on Griffin Reinhart too soon. This is probably the year for him to make the NHL. This year or he is going to be a career AHLers. I am sure Coilers will put him in the lineup next season. Him and Nurse.
So McDavid and Griffin Reinhart are dead to me now..

From Oilers Nation over a year ago:
http://############.com/2014/4/27/do...iffin-reinhart
Quote:
At best, Reinhart isn’t the player he was projected to be when the Islanders drafted him. Just like a new car that depreciates the moment its buyer drives it off the lot, that suggests the Oilers shouldn't have to pay the same price (well, more, technically) than the Islanders did to add the player. It's also worth remembering that the Oilers have a pile of good defensive prospects still in the pipeline [...] It’s great that the Oilers get the inside information that comes with owning the Oil Kings, but that doesn’t mean they have to trade for every prospect who ever wore the jersey of that team.
|
Edit: hahaha Oilers nation's website gets censored here? That's... actually fairly predictable. Petty, but okay, sure, whatever.

well, the Isles are already well-stocked on the blueline ... they have Leddy, Boychuk and Hamonic signed long-term, they have solid youngish defensemen in De Haan, Hickey and Strait, they have Mayfield and Pelech, and most importantly, they have Ryan Pulock coming up. They could afford to part with Reinhart, who hasn't developed as well/quickly as hoped at this point ... adding Barzal and Beauvillier to their prospect pool instead of waiting for Reinhart seems like a sweet deal to me.

He wrote a follow-up after the trade: It’s too early to write off Griffin Reinhart
To his credit, he acknowledges the story he wrote a year ago, and stands by his belief that it's not a great acquisition.

This isn’t a deal I would have made, and I say that without any disrespect toward Reinhart. Mathew Barzal being on the board at No. 16 looked like an awfully nice opportunity for Edmonton; most pre-draft estimates had him inside the top-10 and the Islanders obviously saw value in snapping him up at that point in the draft. Surrendering Barzal is one thing, but to top up the trade with the No. 33 pick seems like an exorbitant price to pay for a guy who isn’t a can’t-miss prospect.
Reinhart’s a nice piece to have in the system. The price was just too rich for my blood.

The Oilers overpaid for a guy who is going to be an NHLer, but not a particularly outstanding one. What makes this hilarious is the fact that they obviously targeted Reinhart because he has a history with the org. I guess, in the end, Katz and co still haven't learned.
That said, and despite Nurse in the system, the Oilers defence remained a trainwreck, so one has to acknowledge that this does improve Edmonton.
