Perhaps...but clearly there is a lot of interest (see other thread title). It's wishful thinking for a return like Alzner but one can hope, I don't think it's as far off as some think.

For sure it'll change things....much like Hall, Yakapov and the Nuge did! When Crosby went to the pens, were players lining up to play with him?
Sure, it'll have something to do with it but I doubt it has enough to do with it see much of a difference. Some players might start to consider the oil but I doubt players want to go there just because McDavid is there.

Per #CBJ GM Jarmo Kekalainen, Mike Reilly has informed the team he won't be signing in Columbus. Story coming.
Rob Mixer @RobMixer
Jarmo: "He exercised his right to talk to other teams. He narrowed his list to 2-3 teams today & we're not one of them, so we move on." #CBJ
Stats
Teams are thought to be CHI, MIN, and I've not seen a third mentioned.
Edit: Apparently LA is in the hunt.

Chicago can get bent if they sign another FA top prospect.

I guess we'll see on July 1st (?) if a bunch of quality UFAs will be signing with the Oilers because of McDavid. I have my doubts.

No way in hell Chi should get away with that Hossa contract.

It shouldn't be able to as the language of the CBA for recapture states the following:
Quote:
For any period during which the Player under a Long-Term
Contract is no longer playing in the League during the term of that
Long-Term Contract by reason of retirement, "defection" from the
NHL or otherwise (but not death) (such that he is not playing and
is not receiving Salary pursuant to that Long-Term Contract), an
amount attributable to that Player shall nonetheless continue to be
included in his Club's Averaged Club Salary as described below.

No way. Alzners local junior career and draft position puts him higher in peoples minds than he really is. He was Washingtons #4 Dman in terms of time on ice (0:19 ahead of being the #5) and has a career high of 21 pts in the NHL. I'd flip my lid if the Flames traded a 60+ point forward that has had great success mentoring the youth for a #4-#5 1 way (no offence) Dman.
I'm all for trading Hudler if the right trade (over payment) comes along, but a trade for a guy that has settled in as a middling 20 pt defensive Dman is NOT the trade we can accept.

I honestly think is possible. I just think long term, when we look back on that trade (if it were to happen) people would be saying we fleeced them. But it honestly is a good fit for both teams in relation to where they are going, what they need, and how close they are to being a contender. Really good trade.

So this is real thing? Stamkos may not Re-sign with TB? Nuts.
Just listening to the FAN right now and this is becoming a thing.

I don't think it does in this case:
Stay in Chicago and play with Toews, Kane et al., or go to Edmonton to play with McDavid. I doubt he'll waive given those choices.

Saw a blurb about on my FB feed yesterday. Didn't think much of it. Sounds pretty unrealistic, but the premise of the "story" was that he was unhappy there for some reason.
Will be a pretty huge deal if this is true.

I can't wait to hear "Stamkos to the Leafs" rumours/speculation all season.
Ugh.

Don Cherry went on one of his signature twitter rants about how Jon Cooper didn't use Stamkos effectively in the playoffs and if it isn't addressed he felt that stammer would/could want out.
Could only imagine the pandemonium of Yzerman having to trade Stamkos.

Weren't the seeds for this rumour planted last season where someone tweeted something about Stamkos in Toronto and he re-tweeted it? Or pressed "like"? Or framed it? Whatever you do with a tweet.

Stamkos for Kessel?
Seems like pretty fair value, especially with Kessel locked into that sweet long term deal BigTuna keeps bragging about. It would be the Leafs taking all the risk in that trade, seeing as Stamkos is a pending UFA.
Amirite?
.....and no, BTW I'm not being serious.

From what Chris Dingman said this would have been laughed at in TB during the regular season but in the playoffs and being used less than 4 or 5 other fwd's he's become increasingly unhappy with how Cooper has been using him. Dingman says because of the playoffs the idea that was once a joke is now real. Stamkos may go UFA.
I think it would be great from a fan perspective to have a superstar test UFA. It's a rarity these days. From a reality perspective, I don't see how he doesn't re-sign. Either way the guy is going to be getting paid. 11+ at full term is my guess.

I admit I am not up to speed on other teams contract stuff but is Stamkos really close to UFA status.....seems like yesterday he was ripping it up as a rookie for crying out loud.
get off my lawn.....

You would have to think Cooper would be gone before Stamkos would be if its truly a case of coach vs player..
