Huh, well I guess Johnny Hockey and I do have something in common after all. Our printing both looks horrendous.

I would agree with this. It gives a management team a chance to establish a rapport with the McDavid camp. When the oilers come into your building, it give you a chance to say hi and talk about how things are going and go back to the initial connection. Then years laters, when there is a chance the McDavid is looking for a change of scenery, your team has established a good relationship with him. I would hope the Flames are interviewing all the top candidates and selling the Flames as a good destination.

To be fair that was at the time of the combine in 2011. It doesn't have anything to do with how he's listed now. Gaudreau says he is 5'9" now.

That handwriting is tragic though.

If you look closely.. it looks like he was going to write 5'7.. and then wrote over it and made the 7 into an 8.

Also that for "other interests outside of hockey" he put "N/A"

He lied then, and he's lying now. Not that it makes a difference, it just keeps us entertained

As the above post shows, he was likely 5'7" at that time. I don't think I grew any more after I was 17 years old.

Matthew Coller @MatthewWGR
According to Murray, Jack Eichel called him out on being disappointed after losing the lottery. That's pretty great.

Between that and "speaks spanish" (probably from taking a class in tenth grade) it just oozes "sixteen year old".

“We interview between 15 and 20 a day for five, four days,” Treliving said from Buffalo. “There’s a lot of kids. I didn’t count the list up, I just noted we’re talking to a lot. We’re talking to a lot.

“Pretty much everybody that’s here. You’re visiting with a lot.”

The interviews, capped with physical fitness testing to close out the combine, are designed to put a face to a scouting report and provide a bit of context into who the player is.

But it’s one piece of a much larger puzzle, Treliving cautioned.

“We’ve highlighted certain areas we need to go and still continue to look at and research and get answers to, but you don’t want to be coming to the combine with a bunch of dramatic shifts and saying we’ve watched this player, in some cases, for two or three years and seen him play x amount of games, have studied and analyzed his game and then we spent 20 minutes with him in an interview and suddenly he’s ratcheted right up or he’s plummeted,” Treliving said.

“You have to keep it in context. In some cases, this is the last dealing, the last interaction. It sticks with you. You have to put it in context. You can’t forget all the other times you watched this player play over the years. You don’t necessarily come out of here and all of a sudden we’re going to forget all we watched and all the work we’ve done leading up to this combine. In a lot of cases, this rounds out the story.

“You’ve got to keep it in context. It can be dangerous if you put too little or too much stock into the combine. This is just another source of information. It helps you round out the picture, but it’s always good to sit down face-to-face with them and get a little insight into who and what they’re all about.”

I'm wondering whether we need to put it in context or keep it in context?

Is it me or is there next to nothing in terms of coverage of the combine this year? I feel like it was covered very well last year and the year prior.

Probably due to it being in Buffalo instead of Toronto and SN having the draft rights not TSN. Just a guess though

All the physical testing is on the 5th and 6th this year. I think most of the stories will come out then.

Didn't the NHL change the format this year and pull are no longer part of the camp?

No. Pull ups were added for the first time last year IIRC.

The three tests to be completed by June 5 that are closed to the media include BodPod, which measures body mass, fat-free mass, fat mass and percent body fat; grip strength, which measures hand strength; and the VO2 max bike test, which measures a player's endurance.

The remaining nine tests to be held June 6 and open to the media include standing height, wingspan, standing long jump, jump station, pro agility test, bench press, pull-ups, Y-balance test station, Wingate Cycle Ergometer Test.
