I see the Flames taking a run at Franson. So I would be ok with that.

A big physical RW that can play top line minutes and add to team toughness.

Not sure what all the fuss about Franson is about as he was a healthy scratch for Nashville down the stretch and into the playoffs... Their season tanked after they made that trade with the Leafs. I hope we avoid dumb contracts for mediocre players.

They can always ride out Hiller for the last year of his deal and find out what they have in Ortio but I expect that the Flames will be looking to deal for a guy like Reimer with one of their 2nd round picks.

- Matt Beleskey
- A legitimate 5/6 Dman. I am not comfortable with any of Diaz, Smid, or Wotherspoon (yet) in this spot
- Re-sign Ramo, trade Hiller

We need a guy who can handle big, power forwards on the second pairing. Move Wideman to the 3rd pairing, and keep him on the pp.

Why does Seabrook's name come up so often? He's got 1 year left on his contract. I sure hope nobody is wanting to trade for him, as that'd likely cost our 1st rounders in 2016, 2017, and a decent roster player. Coburn and Sekera got a ransom this past deadline, and neither of them a close to the player Seabrook is.

I agree. A Regher 2.0 type would be awesome.

The hawks cap situation is pretty bad with the raises for Kane and Toews kicking in next year. They're going to have make at least one move to get rid of a big contract. IF they were desperate enough and had to trade him or were at lest open to it I think it would be worth exploring at the least. I can see them trading Sharp (who I think we should target) but I could also see them trading Seabrook too.

I agree that they'll need to make a move for cap reasons, but I do not agree that we should be in the market for Seabrook. He's in the wrong age range for us to be giving up assets, and he'll fetch A LOT of assets.
Absolutely take a run at him if he makes it to free agency. Hope we pass on trading for him though.

I wouldn't mind the Flames looking at Brendan Dillion he's a UFA and big nasty player. I don't think the price would be unreasonable.

That's one guy I feel like he is going to re-sign with his team. I don't think the Sharks traded for him only to let him walk. Especially at 24 years old.

interesting offseasons, especially when you look at how many Dmen that are in that range of top4-5 with some experience & size that are available.
i wonder how creative the flames will be on the forward side of things with guys like raymond, jooris, colborne, and where they feel they are at with some of the forwards from the heat/scratch-list like granlund, shore, reinhart, arnold, etc.

the needs are pretty obvious to me....improve the blueline with another solid guy who can fit in as a 3-4-5 (along with Russell & Wideman)
Improve the 2nd and 3rd line Wingers...particularly on RW

He's only 30. Gio, Wideman and Engelland are all older than him. He's a top pairing defender and would cost a lot but I think depending on what they'd ask, it would be worth it to get him at a reasonable price instead of overpaying and having a bad contract. If things didn't work out, he could always be traded at the deadline to recoup assets.

Hartley has already been extended.
I think the main thing this team needs is a big, physical top 4 defenceman. Ideally with a right handed shot.

Those 3 Dmen were all acquired for free. If you can get Seabrook for free in the summer of 2016 without paying him 9M+, then we should pursue that.
A rebuilding team can not be giving up the type of assets it'd take to land a 30 year old Seabrook. As fantastic as this season was, lets not lose sight of who we're building this team around (Gaudreau/Monahan/Bennett/Brodie/**) and our long term goal. We need to keep all of our young assets + picks, and develop high qualilty support for these players so that we can contend for the next 10+ years.
**I really wanted to put Gillies there, but can not put him in that group until he earns it at the NHL level
