Thank you Flames for one of the most exciting and best seasons of hockey I have ever seen in my life. It was truly a pleasure. The C of Red will be back in 4 months.

This team played with heart all season long. They played for each other and they played for this city. What an incredible run and they should be extremely proud.
It stings right now, but this will make each and every one of those guys better moving forward. This is year two of a rebuild and these guys made it to the final 8 in the league.
Well Done Calgary Flames!!! We can't wait to see what next season brings!

Enough cannot be said for (in order):
1) The first line. Speed and skill the likes we haven't seen. How they went, the Flames went. Every night. They won more games then any other single line in the league...and one guy is 20, and the other is 22. Incredible and that's the reason for this team to do what it's done.
2)The defenseman. Jumping up and pinching unconventionally created so many chances catching the other team off. WIth Gio down, all of those guys...Wideman, Brodie, Russel and Engelland (taking on two Canucks is maybe the highlight of these playoffs outside of the Stajan G6 goal) and Schlemko, from the moment Gio went down, played probably at 150% of what we as fans expected from them.
3)Goaltending. Severely underated, mostly because it was a tag team all season..but some spectacular play that goes unnoticed because of how the team came back from deficits...deficits that were only 1 or 2 because of some big saves preventing them being down 3 or 4.
Of course the comebacks, Bennett, etc etc are all feel good stories to have fond memories of and hopefully mean development going forward.
Will leave the negatives alone (except for this - the second PP unit did not score a PP goal in almost 3 months...3 - unacceptable, especially given the chances in this series with multiple chances to score).
Lots of time to talk about this, but next year is not automatically "better". Comebacks may not take teams by surprise, nor will the pinching D. They hopefully won't lose 8 in a row either, which should offset that.
Plus, the attention gained, just like 2004, will tilt some decent UFA's our way for the first time , and we can remake the lineup with a lot more skillful and consistent players to help this first line, starting with the second line.

Considering this team was projected to be in the basement of the standings, I honestly can't be any prouder of this team right now. I never thought back in October that I'd still be watching Flames hockey in May. The fact that they made the playoffs, embarrassed the Canucks in the first round, and competed hard with the first place Ducks really says something about this team. Not to mention they haven't had their captain who probably would have been a Norris finalist for the past 10 weeks.
This team is on the upswing, and the future is so bright right now. The experience that these young players gained during these playoffs is going to go a long way for these guys. We've finally got a great young core to build around that includes a Calder finalist (probably winner) and a coach that's a Jack Adams finalist (also probably a winner). Hold your heads up Flames, absolutely nothing to be ashamed of!
I also want to give a shout out to all us Flames fans, the support that this team has gotten during the season and this playoff run has been incredible. Seeing the C of Red on TV looks so awesome, I can only imagine what it's like in person. To compare just look at these Anaheim fans, their team is a contender in the 2nd round of the playoffs and the building sounds like a frickin library. Also to all of you that are watching the Flames from around the world and tuning in at 3AM on a weekday, you guys are troopers. I really shouldn't complain that these games have been on at 10PM for me lol.
What a magical season it's been, I can't wait for next season!

It's been an exciting season. Flames are still rebuilding and the future looks good with a lot of the you forwards. Goalies in Ramo and Ortio looks good as well. Defensive depth was and is a big problem in the playoffs. This team needs to get bigger for 2015/2016. But damn, this team is exciting. Can't wait for the next season to start!

So much to be happy about this season. So many postivies that I can't even think to list them all. The work this team put in makes me so proud. Unreal.
The fact we're a young team, with a ton of cap space, with a lot of picks in this years draft, all while making the 2nd round of the playoffs is truly exciting. So much more to be excited about in the future.

One of the most enjoyable seasons I have had the pleasure of experiencing.
The comebacks. Hartley. Giordano. Gaudreau. All the rookies. Ortio. Ferland. Stajan. Too many awesome things to try and list

1) Hartley - Jack Adams Finalist
2) Gaudreau - Calder Finalist and showed fans that he can produce in the NHL. Not bad for a 4th round pick
3) Giordano - Norris-Type season
4) Monahan - 30-30 season with vastly improved face-offs
5) Brodie - Insane steps forward after signing his contract
6) Bennett - After overcoming shoulder surgery he still impresses in the NHL playoffs as a 18 year old
7) Ferland - Watching him manhandle Bieksa and the Canucks was just icing on the cake
This is just quickly off the top of my head. I haven't even mentioned Russell, Wideman, Backlund, etc.
On the positive side we still draft ahead of the Canucks and retain the 15th overall pick. If we come out with a solid draft in 2015 (not to mention the multiple 2nd's and 3rds) the future is really bright for this flames team.
|
Add in the following:
8) Bouma - heart and soul
9) Colborne - big 2nd line centerman that the Flames needed
10) Jouris - what a rookie year

I just don't even know what to say right now. Obviously Thank you Flames for an unforgettable year.
It stings so bad right now, I wished so badly we'd be a miracle team that went all the way, but nonetheless, extremely proud of this team.
Thanks for the memories boys.

Thank you Flames. Enjoyed this season and playoff run thoroughly. Got to enjoy a tonne of amazing moments with my 10year old son. He was already a huge fan but this cemented it for him. Great experience.
