Crosby's rookie year was also the highest scoring year in the past 2 decades. Not a single player broke 90 points this season.

That'd be lofty.

in 2005-2006 there was 26 players who had 80 points or more, in 2014-2015 there was five (5). Pretty impressive if McDavid walks in and becomes a top 5 scorer. Even Crosby didn't do that and he sat 6th his rookie season.

I'd put McDavid around 55-65 points next season and Bennett at 45-55 personally but I'm no god of math.

However, his point totals won't have any effect on winning games. They'll still suck. He can get them out of the bottom 5, which is good for not only us but for the hockey world.
While I agree that McDavid will win the rookie points race (likely by a wide margin), it wont be because the Oilers have a "great offensive group". They have finished 18th, 25th & 26th in scoring in the past 3 seasons. Not only are they one of the worst offensive teams in the NHL but they are actually going backwards. They have a couple big names in their offensive group but they are nowhere near "great" or even "good" as it sits right now. Like almost every other statistical category in hockey, they are well below average.

That's because the only people scoring is their top 6.

Perhaps I should of said half of their forwards have the capability of scoring.

I think this season was generally a down season for scoring in the NHL; don't be surprised to see a rebound next year. There were 9 players who posted a 0.98 points per game or better clip this season. In the season prior there were 16.

Crosby was #6 in league scoring in his rookie year. I could definitely see McDavid make his way into the top 10 in league scoring next year.

05-06 was just after the lockout, with the new pro-scoring rules newly in place and newly enforced. The obstruction game has gradually come back, so scoring isn't going to be like when Crosby started.

Yes... and Oiler centric too.
The psychology of our fanbase is odd, at best.
When we were both floundering it was a distraction from our own failure. Now it's just sad. I could not care less about the Oilers until they become an actual rival again.
