I hope he goes to Toronto. Could be epic and it keeps him out of Edmonton.

Not sure why you think this as he has no ties to Peter Chiarelli or the Oilers organization and with Chiarelli newly hired and not going anywhere soon he would have to have a really good feeling about them being able to work together. IMO Edmonton is a dark horse. No impossible but unlikely.

This is insanity... but wonder if Katz would pay him $15M per?
I realize that's about 6 times higher than the highest paid coach ever. But Katz is a bazillionaire, Edmonton is under immense pressure, and are moving into a new building. Katz is desperate for Babcock.

Babcock has already won everything, now is his time to cash in. My prediction is that he goes to Toronto, 5 years @ 6M

Or he could get paid and keep winning? I'm sure Toronto isn't the only team that'll give him a ####load of money.
I agree with whoever said St. Louis. If he wants to have a chance at winning now and in the future, that's the team for him.

I would really hate if it happened but the more I think about it, the more I think the oilers have a decent shot at him. Katz just looks like the kind of guy who'll pay anything to get Badcock. I guess they can pay him as much as they want and tell him that they have the "next generational talent" and a GM who's....more competent than MacT was. Being with the oilers is probably the biggest challenge there is so if that's what he's looking for then the oilers are a perfect fit for him.
Freudian slip there....

St. Louis makes the most sense to me; they have an established line up and it is not a fishbowl like Toronto or Edmonton

If you can believe Dreger, McKenzie and LeBrun then Edmonton certainly isn't a dark horse...he's the favourite. So it's not an out of this world thought. The main reasons they give are Connor McDavid, his close ties with Chiarelli/Nicholson, and money.
I'm hoping he stays in Detroit. No need to help the Leafs or Oilers out!

Why does he need an official permission to hear other teams' offers though? His contract is up, is it not? Or is he technically under his existing contract until the end of August?

He's still under contract until June 30, I believe

ABE.
Anywhere but Edmonton. Let them keep cycling through amateur and washed up coaches.

Winning a cup in Toronto would be easily the most legendary sports achievement ever. At least that's what Toronto media would tell the world for the next 50 years.
Winning a cup anywhere else would not come close in amount of noise created.

ok, I'm not sitting here saying that Babcock isn't a good coach, he is, but where's the threat if he does go to Edmonton.
Has Babcock ever coached a bad team? No, but he's coached Detroit teams that are very deep and built very well. He's coached international teams that are all stars.
Beyond his one Cup win and one trip to the finals, he's taken very deep talented Detroit teams to the second round.
What's going to happen if he's coaching a team with a nice top 6 and not much else?
Let him go to Edmonton, the town where coaches go to die.

I'm not sure Edmonton has the patience to wait while Babcock fields offers.

Actually, if Babcock wants to be a GM, I'd take him over Treliving any day.

Babcock in Edmonton would be scary, because he would be the guy to wake up management to the no-goodness of there core and they should get rid of them all for players that want to win.

Toronto, Edmonton, Buffalo, and St.Louis are my guesses on the biggest players in Babcock.

If Babcock wants some management control as well as coaching duties, I'm not sure Edmonton is for him. Would Chiarelli have signed on if he was going to have to give up some power right away?
