SJ is almost as much of a mess as EDM, but for completely different reasons.

They are pretty much stuck with Thornton unless they want to give him away. I would have to believe teams would want a discount to pick up a cancer like that.

They are stuck with Thornton unless Thornton wants to leave. Full NMC. At least his contract has only two years left though.

In related moves, Assistant Coaches Jim Johnson and Jay Woodcroft, and Video Coordinator Brett Heimlich have been relieved of their duties.

Thornton is the grumpy old fart at the retirement home that gets the nurses fired. Until the contract is dead, he'll make everyone's life hell.

Or as mouthpiece drew remenda relayed on radio last week, he spoke to JT, and Thornton meant he hoped Todd would consult his other family in the dressing room. Thornton wanted Todd to stay. Call BS if you want but wouldn't be the first time a player's quote was taken the wrong way.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Todd McLellan has permission to speak with other NHL teams immediately. The Sharks just have to be kept in the loop.

McLellan won't have to wait too long for the offers to come in. I'm sure both the Leafs and Oilers will be looking at him closely.
