I know that Pavelec will be starting in net for the Czech Republic. Scheifele wanted to compete, but with Crosby going instead. For the USA, Byfuglien and Trouba are recovering from injuries, and Wheeler wants to spend time with his family.

Ehlers turned down Denmark to rest, then train for the NHL next year. Myers may be called to play on D for Canada.

god damn Connor Hellebuyck has been impressive at every level. I hope he steals some games for the Americans and Chevy has no choice to bring up up to the big squad more next season.

What happened to Nugent-Hopkins? He hasn't played. Did they decide on a two Oiler limit?

Doctors did not clear him to play. He was in a walking boot on garbage bag day for the Oilers.

I saw Nugent Hopkins in the Vancouver Airport last week with a walking boot on.

USA vs Russia about to start. I was looking forward to seeing Hellebuyck get his first big test, but it looks like the Americans are starting Jack Campbell in goal, for some reason. Should be a good game.

Crosby joined the tournament just because he doesn't have the triple yet, if they win this year, I guarantee you he will NEVER join the World championships again, even if available.

As usual, the Swiss are playing Canada really tight. Not much room out there, despite the larger ice surface. 2-1 Canada after 20 minutes.

Austria just won vs Germany in the shootout. So with an automatic loss vs Canada tomorrow, we'll finish with 5 points ... which could be enough to stay up. If France lose vs Sweden today and Latvia-France is solved in regulation tomorrow, we survive ... please make it happwn! After beating Swizerland on opening day, I never thought it'd be that close again, but as usual, we totally choked vs France and Latvia. Disappointing, really ... but if we finally manage to stay up for once, everything wil be forgiven

There was one - ONE! - scenario that would send Austria down today: France beating Latvia in overtime or shootout. And of course - OF COURSE!!! - Latvia blow a 2 goal lead, France tie with three minutes to go in regulation and go on to win in the shootout. What can I say, I'm not even surprised.

Austria has now gone up-down for 10 straight years. It's beyond frustrating at this point.

Apparently Ovechkin is on his way to play for Russia and this is the one thing he seems to be able to win. Though Sweden could make that moot here...

You must lose your mind if you're in the Penguins organization, or even a fan

Amazing how hard Malkin checked out during the playoffs, yet comes to play for Russia

Russians don't have a choice. If they're available, they play.
