Was a huge part of the resurgence of a his franchise, nearly as much as iginla. He kept people honest. Probably one of the most hated Flames by both oiler and Canuck fans.
There were some ramblings about Regehr always wanting to be a locker room lawyer and not overly friendly to the Saddledome staff; not sure if they were true, half-true or not at all true. Regardless of those rumors, I always liked Regehr as a player and admired his perseverance after the horrible accident he's been through. I remember how Iginla referred to other teams' forwards having to clear Regehr's "tunnel of death" before they can get anywhere close to the goal, which I thought was hilarious and, at the same time, an indication of respect he was given by others. Enjoy Saskatchewan, Robyn!
If my recollection serves me right, he comes from a preacher family. I wouldn't be surprised if Regehr goes to coaching in NHL at some point.

If I recall correctly, the reports were always that Regehr was the player that was outspoken against lazy play, and unsatisfactory commitment by the rest of the team. He was vocal when it came to forwards cheating and not playing a 2-way game.

I beg to differ that he was a one dimensional player. Just because he lacked any realy offensive abilities doesn't mean he was completely inept. Reggie was a 22 minute/night, +30 defenseman in Calgary (+70 in his years after the SCF run) in an era where the 'shutdown' defenseman has thinned out completely, he stays relevant.
3 time allstar, 2 time norris balloted, 1 time olympic appearance. most games played by a single Calgary Flames defenseman. I think he ranks in the top 5-10 in all-time Flames defenseman as well, so not jersey retirement status, but hovering around the FaF honors for sure.
Plus, the NHL's only Brazilian!
3 time All Star? What are talking about? I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he played in one young stars game, that is all.
I agree he was a good player, but not even close IMO to be getting Forever a Flame or jersey retirement type stuff. We can't start hanging every good likeable player from the rafters around here, that would be ridiculous. The truth of the matter is Calgary really hasn't had any super special players other than Kipper and Iggy on this roster for decades.......although here's hoping were seeing the start of a couple of other pretty special careers this season (23, 13).
Reg is behind a long list of other retired Flames who aren't hanging there yet, not that I think they should all be there, but Reg wouldn't even be top 10 of retired former Flames for me that should get honoured, maybe top 20. I think we get tinted by what were some pretty thin years talent wise on this club, starts to make us consider players like Reg for these honours.
But I will stop, Reg was a great Flame who I liked and is hanging him up. Good for him, great career and I'm glad he got a cup .

One of my favourites. Class act on and off the ice. Loved the way he played the game. Not many defenseman score an average of 1-2 goals a year and play in the Olympics for Team Canada!

I am not sure about the all star appearances, but he was an Olympian.
And he was a great Flame. He is Forevere a Flame no mater what.
He (and Iginla) made the Flames relevant again.
Iginla was the Flames good boy, Robyn was the bad boy. The mean one. The @ss!

Regehr's retirement leaves Iginla, Ference and Leopold as the three remaining players still active in the NHL from the 2003-04 #Flames team.
