If he's not playing nicely, Gaudreau can body check him again?

Hey Buff, we're gonna suspend for all the games remaining... except the one that probably has the biggest playoff implications for the LA Kings, you can be nice and rested for that one.
Fixed your post.

Knew the league wouldn't have the stones to give him the rest of the regular season. Should've been 6+ easily.

I'll take it. Next four games will be tough ones for the Jets; if the last game of the season still has playoff implications then so be it.

Elliot Friedman predicted only four games, because the game against Calgary potentially has playoff implications for both teams and possibly more, such as the Kings.

He then went on to explain a situation last year in which he didn't name any names or teams. A player was injured because of a dirty play that didn't get called on the ice. The GM for the injured player was highly upset and complaining to the league about how nothing happened. The league told him they would look into it, but the GM quickly called them back and asked them not to suspend the offending player because he looked at the schedule and the offending player's team was facing teams that could potentially affect the victim player's team's chances of making the playoffs if those teams were to beat the offending player's teams during the suspension. So the league didn't suspend. Based on that Elliot determined that this would apply to Byfuglien's scenario and that Big Buff would be back for the final game against Calgary.

If Miller didn't return after that vicious crosscheck Bfugly gets the 6 games.
I honesty thought they would have given him 2 but jmo he could have just as easily been given 6 games.
I'm good with the 4 game decision but if he would have put out Miller for any length of time i would have been wanting 10 games. The cross check was that dirty and senseless.

It's absolute nonsense that he was suspended 4 games and not 5.
It's obvious its because he's back to play against Calgary.
Bush league - the schedule should have nothing to do with the offense.

Someone is going to break their neck and the league is going to get hit hard for setting these kinds of expectations.

This is clear as day, unreal...

I wonder how many games he would have gotten if he had cracked a vertebrae?

Should it matter?

It makes the NHL look very unprofessional if they based the suspension on the NHL schedule's affect on other teams versus the severity of the offence.

It sure looked to me like his actions deserved more than 4 games. The player that was victimized could have had his neck broken and may still suffer future medical problems because of this reckless act. The punishment in this case appears to be far too lenient and does not reflect well on the NHL. Third parties should be involved in decision making when it comes to player safety.

Toffoli gets zero and Buff gets 4, ok.

Both were suspension worthy but this goes to show the wheel of justice is in full effect.

Four games seems pretty severe to me, especially considering Byfuglien is a star player.

The Jets schedule had no relevance in the leagues decision.

This may be a blessing in disguise for the Jets. We tend to play our best hockey when players go down. Buff has not been great at D. He should be playing at forward.

I'm not sure I can understand why injury (or lack thereof) to a player has any affect on the league's decision. The intent was very clear and both parties should be thanking their lucky stars the result wasn't very different.

IMO, the league puts far too much weight on the outcome of any incident as opposed to the intent and follow through of a violation. "I didn't hurt anyone when I robbed that liquor store with a gun, so I shouldn't be charged with armed robbery."

Basically it's my opinion that 4 games is an absolute joke.

yeah well thats how it is in hockey right now. if you slash a stick and it breaks, penalty. if it doenst, your good.

slash a guy and he's cut? 4 mins. no cut? 2 mins.

tonight if jackman was taken off on a stretcher after the dirty boarding call bolig would likely be looking at a suspension. like it or not, in hockey, result matters as much as intent.

again i dont take issue with the length of suspension, just that toffoli got to walk as do so many others. there's just zero consistency.

That would make no sense.

-He is a first time offender
-The Rangers player was not injured
-It was a phone hearing, and he received the maximum penalty (4 games)

Habitual offenders like Cooke have injured players and received less than 6 games.

The NHL can be so bush league at times. Who cares if the game has 'playoff implications'... it was a scumbag play, throw the book at him FFS.
