Beating out the Jets for a wildcard spot is a fallback strategy.
Only one team of five will miss the postseason. Hoping for it to be the Canucks seems pretty pie in the sky. They have 90 points. The last two games they play are against the Coyotes and Oilers - teams that are better off if they lose. They also have 7 more games before those two. Even if they lose 7 straight games they still have a pretty good chance of making it so long as a couple of those losses come in OT.

Pinning your playoff hopes on a team losing somewhere around 7 games in a row in regulation seems... well, optimistic would be one word I guess.

Jets.

The playoff Kings are back in their original form.

Wouldn't it be a pleasant surprise if one of the teams ahead of us took a DIVE I the standings...?

Has anyone else just been staring at the standings like 8 times today?

This is going to be a ride.

The Flames need to go 5-3-1 to get to 97 points.

Scenario A: Flames win tonight. That would mean they need to go 4-3-1 over their final 8 with a tough 5 game road trip coming up. Go 2-2-1 on that trip and they need to go 2-1-0 in their final 3 games of which one is home against Arizona. Assume they win that one at it's 1-1-0 in their final two games against the Kings and Jets.

Scenario B: Flames lose in regulation tonight. Now they need to go 5-2-1 over their final 8 with a tough 5 game road trip coming up. Go 2-2-1 on that trip and they need to go 3-0-0 in their final 3 games of which one is home against Arizona. Assume they win that one at it's 2-0-0 in their final two games against the Kings and Jets.

Such a huge game tonight.

Oh and the Kings have moved into 20th spot in terms of schedule difficulty with the Rangers game in MSG off their docket.

Regardless of the end result, I'm really proud of this team. This has been the most fun season to watch in recent memory.

Playoffs would be gravy.

Everyone yet no one. Regardless of what's going on, we gotta just have to target winning every game we can. We can match and cross compare stats once the games have been played. Just need to finish the season with our best hockey and things will be alright. Proud of our boys regardless.

I assume the teams jockeying for position will all continue to be hot. So I assume we will have to match and exceed them (which will be fine if we just play our own brand of hockey).

Even if the Canucks go .500 in their remaining games, we'd have to go 7-2-0 to pass them. If they go 5-4-0... we need 7-1-1 to steal 2nd.

We'd need an incredible swing in order to pass them.

If we've learned anything from this team all season, they will lose the next four games, only to mount a furious, late season comeback to tie LA after beating them in the second last game and then beating the Jets for the last Wildcard spot in the last game of the season.

Both games will go into overtime and every member of CP will lose 1.2 years off their life from having to witness the entire ordeal...

I would like to see a Ducks/Kings, Canucks/Flames first round matchup. I believe this is the Flames best chance of getting to the western conference final. Sorry Jet fans. It's not you, it's me.

Vancouver

I'd much rather the Flames have the mindset of being the hunter and not the hunted.
