These people are trying to impose a kind of back-door libertarianism, where the ability of the government to control fiscal policy is severely curtailed. They have zero chance of success, but that doesn't mean that one should smile and wink at their antics.
I agree with you that the government should have the right to dictate how Canada creates money. I'm sure that there is pressure from financial corners to not borrow more from the Bank of Canada and to continue with higher interest loans from other sources. I think the pressure from the other side is not great enough for the good of Canada's people.

I would disagree that the end goal is libertarianism. I would think the end goal is to balance out the pressure that exists on our government to not move in this direction.

Iceland is repeatedly lauded as this heroic nation that arrested its bankers (not true up until a few weeks ago) and all kinds of nonsense that never happened. Its repeated over and over again by liberal FB groups and even in media, even though attempts are made by Icelanders to contact and correct them. Even when we provide evidence to the contrary they refuse to take down these meme's because "well Iceland did at least something, unlike the US."

Like its ok to lie because you want to promote an agenda in your own country. So frustrating.
