Do no want. Slow overpaid old defensive dman. Don't understand the hype but it's the same board that hyped jokinen finally true top center. Sending back 2nd and prospect like bartschi is brutal.

$4.5 million cap hit, and he's 30.
But I wouldn;t consider him old or ovrpaid, and also....debil said he's slow......no he's not really slow, especially for a 6'5 225lb big guy.

I could see the Flames taking Lecavalier's contract with Coburn's in exchange for another vet like Stajan or Engelland and a 3rd.

A little short on both. 4.5 a year and he just turned 30. He
But I wouldn't consider him old or slow for a big guy, and bringing up Jokinen by debil is just weird.
He's an okay 2nd pairing guy, with a low hockey IQ.

Coburn and Lecavalier for Bollig and Raymond
They save $4.6M this year and next year, the 3rd year is a wash, 4th year they save $4.5m again
Keeps the roster players even
We get the better player in exchange for about $9m in total cap space

If Coburn's old, so are his draft mates Seabrook, Burns, Suter and Phaneuf...

Lecavalier doesn't fit in the Flames speed game seeing he's lost a few steps. I would pass on acquiring him unless the package was sweet as that's a really bad contract.

Agreed, but I think the purpose of picking up Lecavalier is for the compensation of taking on his salary. Not to have him as a productive part of the roster. If he finds his way to the roster and contributes at all, that's gravy. But not the point in Calgary picking him up.
It's funny, I'm seeing a bunch of Toronto fans posting about how great Horton is going to be. Not the point of why Toronto acquired him.

Lecavalier was quoted earlier this season too saying he'd be retiring before his contact was up. In a means to entice teams to take his contract on with a little less reservation.

Is there or was there something about players retiring still having an impact on the teams cap for the contract's original term? Or was that just an empty threat I read somewhere?

I agree with roof-daddy and MMF-he skates ok for a big guy, and would bring us more size which we need, especially in our conference. Give him to Hartley and the rest of the coaches and he'll be fine.

Beyond a certain age. I think 35 and over the retiring players contract still affects the cap. IIRC, Vinny signed in PHI younger than 35.
