Dress him.
Comments weren't that bad that you make him a healthy scratch for it.
He wants to play more, and he wants to contribute more. Good, now let him go prove it.

Comments have nothing to do with it.
You don't play spiteful power trips with assets*.

I think this question depends on what's been happening behind the scenes.
Of course if a trade is near, maybe just working out the last little kinks, you sit him. If they're mulling over a couple options or trying to get a destination off his no movement clause, he still should be sat. But if he's "been on the market" for awhile and all teams interested have scouted him then there's not much reason to play him and risk injury either.
If it's only really boiled over recently and no trade is imminent, he needs to play and let the scouts watch him.

Bigger distraction if they scratch him.
Don't scratch him until perhaps the game prior to the deadline.

As Treliving said, just because it became public yesterday doesn't mean it started yesterday. From the Flames' perspective, nothing has changed from the way it has been for the last few weeks.
The only reason he would not play tonight is if a trade is likely to be completed tonight.

We still need him regardless of the trade talks.

You dress and play him until it is known within the organization that a trade is going through. It's probably best to showcase the player and hope he plays with integrity.

I can't remember the two teams involved but suddenly a player from each team was missing from the bench. After the game a trade was announced between the two teams that just played involving the players that went missing from their benches. It happened a long time ago.

Now that it is gone public it will have to take until the deadline for Treliving to get the bidding going to build up the offers.

I'd play him until the deadline. Get whatever production you can out of him on the Eastern road trip. Showcase him in the process. To me that is decent maximisation of an asset.

What did he say?
It is in his best interests to play well if he is trying to impress other GMs.

The team he wants to be traded to the most is Anaheim, dress him and hopefully he has a terrific game and gets his wish shortly afterwards.

As for his comments... I don't understand what's even slightly bad about them. He said he loves the team and will miss it if he has to go but he has no disillusions that if they want him gone he won't be here. Of course you play him.

Didn't the Flames once make a trade with a team they were playing just before the game started and the players played in the game for their new teams? Or am I imagining that happened?

Dress him, shelter him with cushy zone starts and weak opposition, give him max power play time and instruct him to shoot from everywhere.

It seems some have interpreted this question different ways, despite the answers being pretty clear.
Some seem to think that the question to scratch him or not is linked to yesterdays comments, which I don't think it is, it is more about whether you protect your asset or play him and hope he doesn't get injured.
