After today's trades, odds of the #Sabres finishing last, winning the lottery and getting Connor McDavid are 20 percent. Same as yesterday.
After today's trades the odds of the Sabres finishing last and guaranteeing one of Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel are 100%.
They just traded their top defensemen (by a mile), their top winger, and their starting goaltender and replaced them with Zack Bogosian for this season.

Completely not true. Edmonton tries to compete, they just arent very good at it. Buffalo has been intentionally dismantling for years.
not at the beginning of their rebuild they shipped out useful vets and went with hopes of high draft picks carrying the team. With no decent goalie buffalo will be a bad team for a couple more years.

Sure, 100% in 30th place. Doesn't increase their odds any in getting McDavid. Stays at 20%. They were dead last before they made these trades and they'll be dead last after. Even if they didn't make these deals there was a great chance they'd still be 30th at the end of the season anyways.
I like Enroth a lot. I am glad he's getting an opportunity elsewhere. I think he could become a decent 1B guy for Dallas.
I wonder what Buffalo does for goalies moving forward. All of their current guys kind of suck. Even their one good long range prospect Ullmark is not looking as good this year.

Who's Buffalo going to have as their number 1 next year? Surely with McDavid / Eichel, Kane and their other players next season, they want to not finish bottom 3 again, right?!
I really wish they implemented the lottery for the top three this year rather than waiting till the 2016 draft. I can't wait for that to come in. Anyways, I think everyone knew going in that Buffalo was the team to beat for the McDavid sweepstakes. They were already the worst team and I highly doubt they would have climbed out of last had they not made the moves.
If anything, the moves today will ensure they don't become fixtures like Edmonton at the bottom. You can see that they have a plan.
Enroth is a UFA at the end of the year, and may have indicated he wants more than they will spend on him. So they are doing what many (including me) think might happen with Glencross. I can't call it tanking.
Getting a 2nd/3rd for a pending UFA very average goalie is a fairly good return. Enroth stoned Calgary one game but got beat pretty good in the other.
ETA: Neuvirth is also a UFA so maybe they've simply made a choice. They may also have another trade in them for a backup with starter aspirations, someone like a Reimer.

Right... I'd guess a trade for someone like Reimer. There's little in the way of legit unquestioned starters next year in free agency so they'll either have to trade for a guy blocked with his current team or roll the dice with a guy like Ramo.
Actually I wouldn't bet against Ramo landing there in free agency.

This point about accelerating their tank is moot.
He said 100% about getting Mcdavid or Eichel though
