I don't think Dreger has the pieces of the trade correct. Kinda feel sorry for jets fans that are foaming at the mouth with what they think they might get back. This is going to end up like the flames trading Regher. Lots of names thrown around but in the end not what fans were hoping for.

Really for me the winner will be decided by which of Myers or Kane figures things out. Bogosian is a wild card in there too as if he hits his upside, that will tip things in favor of Buffalo.
I'm not big on Myers. I don't think he's going to rebound to his previous form.
And the rest of the deal is just a bunch of stuff.
Stafford: Inconsistent at best. Been a long time since he scored 30. 9 goals this year. Meh.
Lemieux: interesting prospect but probably tops out as a 3rd liner
Armia: I question if he can translate his offense to the NHL and if he can't - he won't be an NHLer.
So again - comes down to Kane/Myers and which ones gets their career back on a positive trajectory.
|
I agree, Armia is a longshot for an NHL future at this point, Stafford is UFA depth who will leave, Bogosian -> Myers is lateral move at best, but possibly a downgrade, then there's the pick and the Lemieux kid which is the only enticing part of the move for me.

For me, I feel that the Sabres are giving up too much. They could probably take away one of Lemieux, Armia or the 1st round pick and it'd still be fair.
Buffalo is taking a definite risk on this, they are willing to take away the Jets' problems and overpaying for them.

In my mind Bogosian is similar at this point to Myers.
A guy with promise who has never really delivered, and the time is running out.
Good for the jets to get value for him while they can.

Ken Wiebe @WiebeSunSports
Alex Burmistrov may not be the unsigned prospect in discussions with #Sabres - don't rule out RPI goalie Jason Kasdorf, #NHLJets draft pick

In #jets Zach Bogosian case, he does have a no-move clause but it's still not effective because of the # of season he played.
Sucks for Bogosian, because if he is traded before his NTC takes effect, the Sabres have the option to not honour it in the future. Though, other than Edmonton, anywhere would be better than Buffalo, so he probably wouldn't miss it too much anyway.

When dealing with NHL prospects it's always a gamble if they make it or not.
The best part of the deal for the peg is that they get players that can help them this year. Kane was not going to help them at all. You could say everybody involve is a wildcard but Jets seem to get more bullets in the chamber to get a good shot off.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Word is Evander Kane is ok with trade to Buffalo. Chance for a fresh start. Looking forward to playing major role on rebuilding Sabres.
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Not saying Buffalo would have been Kane's top choice, but he's fine with it
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Myers Stafford Armia Lemieux and first for Bogosian and Kane

One part is Bogosian and Kane just carry value due to draft position, same with Burmistrov (if it's him).
Bogosian: 3rd Overall 2008
Kane: 4th overall 2009
Burmistrov: 8th overall 2010
Winnipeg giving up on all the 1st from the former regime in one trade.

Surprised Winnipeg isn't getting Chris Stewart instead of Stafford... he could fill the same role as Kane was playing.
