It'll suck to see Jon go. I can't really see anyone replacing him, but I think Paul F. Tompkins would do a great job. He was funny on Best Week Ever, and I enjoy him on Speakeasy and No, You Shut Up!
I'd like to see Amy Poehler too, but I think she's too busy, even with Parks and Rec done.

My vote to take over the show would be Trevor Noah. He's done a few bits on the show already that were quite good, he's already good with political humor, and seems very intelligent and well spoken

That could be an incredible show.

He's not bad, but it's going to be a pretty radical departure I think. The skewering of the American system by an American comic works and I wonder how much they'll replicate that with a South African at the helm.

I love Jon Oliver's show. Its an interesting perspective.

I am still sad to hear he's leaving The Daily Show but my favorite Jon Stewart moment wasn't even on his own show. When he appeared on CNN and destroyed Crossfire that was an amazing piece of television.

I feel so prophetic. Honestly for as much as I wanted to see him get the gig I thought he wasn't nearly well known enough to get a shot at it. Awesome news though, now instead of dreading the day that Stewart leaves I'm looking forward to seeing what Noah can do

I didn't know anything about this guy until now. Seems like the right kind of guy for the show though.
The thing I liked about Stewart, is that even though he is obviously a left leaning liberal, he wasn't above bashing people of his own side or attracting guests with opposing view points. This guy seems like he might have the same tactfulness.

I like Noah, I think he'll be good. I do agree with Nik that the show probably won't carry the same weight with a foreigner as the host. Despite Oliver's success he a) Has been in the NA spotlight far longer, and b) has an HBO weekly show in which he focuses a lot on international stories.
The main audience will remain for sure, but I don't think he'll pull in as many new viewers or get the media's attention the way Stewart has.
I'm surprised they didn't go with Jones or a Bee/Jones combo. I would think they offered something to one or both of them first, or they're probably pretty irate about being leapfrogged by a guy who's had short segments on the show only a few times.
(I also realize they are foreigners too, from Canada, but they don't have accents and are white, so most American's wouldn't know).
My main issues with the choice aren't so much him being foreign, although that is a concern. It's that I don't know that he can pull it off. Stewart could be ridiculous and silly while still staying completely on message and it was endearing. That's a tough tightrope to walk. Jason Jones might have been able to do it.
The other point is whether Noah can interview. Stewart was generally pretty good at it.
