He's shown he can be more than a fourth liner...so by definition that shows he can be a top nine. But I think the best description is that he's an excellent bottom six winger.

He's a leader (captain of the Giants), a heart and soul player, a role guy, and the DNA of how this team has success. He's like a Prust or a Clarkson I guess. Hes a guy you'd way rather play with than against. And finally, he's a piece to a championship team. Flames draft pick, tough as nails, willing to make every sacrifice, etc. perfect 4th line, PK, bottom rotation player. And far more rare than people seem to think. I say it in every thread, sign him to the same length of contract as Brodie (albeit for cheaper). It's a no brainer in my opinion.

The thing for me is that it wasn't Clark's fault he was put in a spot he wasn't ready for. The comparison I see is they are or were both gritty, responsible wingers who can or could help out offensively now and than. I wouldn't count on their offence though Clark went on to surprise and maybe Bouma can as well.

I think part of the challenge is that the traditional 1st to 4th line roles are evolving and merging.
You need 4 lines that can do everything (like last night's lineup, but better).
And Bouma can do everything. He is never going to be a star. He isn't going to have the big numbers. But he is a solid player who will help his team win. And that's enough of a description for me.
I still think his best comparison is Bobby Nystrom (the dad). Never one of the top players on the Islanders dynasty, but always one of the most important. And had a knack for the big goal.

I think on a good team he'd be a third liner with a player like Backlund. Some nights that would be our second line. This offense though is unexpected. Makes me think he might have higher potential with the right linemates.

Lance Bouma is a player you keep. One of my favourite Flames on this team.

Or maybe Yvan Lambert. Grinder, but could score a bit and get really big goals.

Are you talking about Yvon Lambert? Cause that guy scored a lot.

He is Brad Marchand, without the dirty play and d-baggedness.
Will be a solid 3rd line guy, with streaks of brilliance that get him streaks of second line numbers. He will be a key piece for years to come.

To be honest, I'm not sure he really "got better" this year. I think playing on a wing with Matt Stajan, and then Mikael Backlund made us see him for his strong points.

I'm embarrassed I spelled his name wrong because he was one of my favorite Habs, along with Yvan Cournoyer.
He scored in the 20s usually, but that was in the 70s, on a high scoring team against guys with skinny leather pads, while on the 2nd or 2rd line. I went more by his ranking on the team, which I feel is where Bouma can be (say from 7th - 5th). It's also where Nystrom was.

I see him as a top 9 for sure. He's a good fill in as a top 6 guy when someone goes down with an injury.

I think he has definitely gotten better offensively.
Last year, he was the typical 4th liner - he would work hard, get the puck and fight to get a chance, but when he did, you never got too excited because the shots were wide or into the pads.
He worked on it over the summer and this year he has more finish.

He's a perfect 4th liner. So perfect, you can't help but wonder if he's slotted wrong and instead deserving of the the top 9.

The Wingels Comparison is apt I believe. Although I think Bouma's just beginning to hit his stride.

I think his heart and soul brings out the best in everyone on the team. His skill set is so important to off set some of our smaller guys. Even though so much is made about how the Flames are a small team players like Bouma really balance it out. We have rarely been out played physically this year and I put that on a few of our bigger guys that have really stepped up.
