Don't want to criticize what may be a serious problem with him, but the cynical part of me is wondering if this is just a PR move? The kid has been taking a lot of heat for off field and on field stuff and this gives them an explanation.

He's been rumoured to be a complete lush since his time at A&M. He probably is an alcoholic or close to it. Troutman hit the key point, the Browns failed spectacularly evaluating him. Should have been a 3rd round pick at best.

Or they were simply naive and thought they could turn him around themselves. Still, Browns being Browns.

Well, back in 2013, it was obvious he had a drinking problem
http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/...-espn-magazine
I had one friend in highschool whose parents bought him bottles of Jack when he was 15, 16, and so into his 20's had no respect for alcohol or its effects. Now he gets verrrrry sensitive if you suggest that he should cut back, even for one night.

Johnny Manziel = Joe Kane
Now all the Browns need is a hot shot rookie tailback, a stud middle linebacker who breaks his leg, and a 'roided up defensive lineman...

I thought Connor Shaw showed well when given a chance.
http://www.thestate.com/2015/02/02/3...y-manziel.html
Former South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw started the last game of the season for Cleveland, and the Browns owner recently said that Shaw would be in the mix for next season.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connor_Shaw
Shaw had the best record as a quarterback in Gamecock history, finishing with a 27-5 record as a starter.
Shaw received mixed reviews from critics but praise from teammates such as Joe Thomas who was quoted saying "He's a quarterback that belongs in the NFL" and Taylor Gabriel who said "He had a lot of poise in the huddle."

Don't see how Manziel could recover from this? He is good looking, young, atheletic and coming from a family with dough. Unfortunately, blessings could acutally be curses sometimes. I think he'll quit football himself.

To pretty much no one's surprise, Cleveland's Josh Gordon fails another drug test and is suspended a year. Gotta think his days with the Browns are all but finished now.

I don't think the browns failed interviewing Manziel. It was a complete hail mary attempt at what could be a franchise QB.
It is too early to write him off. History would say he is finished however I still believe he is an elite player talent wise and simply put, doesnt take preparation too seriously.
It is easier to change ones mental focus than it is to infuse them with talent. Ill give him 1 more year to prove himself.
As for the hawks, can someone shed light on this for me-
rumors that Marshawn was offered a contract in the 10 mill range.
they have 22ish mill in cap space
Wilson will be receiving a 20 mill pay raise
I am a huge fan of the beast but at that money, let Turbin step in who may actually be a more ideal fit for the read option, and if they have some trick up their sleeve to come up with 10 million, get Wilson one of the sought after receivers.

When Manziel actually got on the field, his arm looked as weak or weaker than Tebow's. He does not have a good enough arm to make tight throws, and as we saw his dancing around hoping something happens routine is DOA in the NFL. If he were a 3rd round pick the Browns would have already cut him. He's got at least 2 years of sitting on the bench before he's close to ready for NFL football. But do you trust a guy like that to sit for two years and keep his head? But hey he could be Johnny CFL in the future so there's that.
