I think next season will be too early to bring him into the NHL. The Flames already have lots of depth at the position and Treliving sounds like a guy that is going to be very patient with prospects.

This reminds me of posters who thought Gaudreau would be spending the entire season in the AHL this season. Bennett will not be playing in the World Juniors next season. Maybe the World Championships if the Flames don't make the playoffs.

even if he makes the team, if we're not in playoff contention Treliving and management could just lend him to team Canada. I agree with EE that he'll be at the WJC

The main thing with a list like Pronman's is that he doesn't have enough time to actually watch enough games to give a real unbiased view of 50+ prospects.
That is why I prefer lists like Mckenzies, where they take the words of a group of scouts and compile it into one list.

I think it is more likely that he makes the team this year, than that he doesn't make the team next year.

Interesting that Bennet and S. Reinhart switched spots on his board. He was higher on Bennett than Reinhart before he was drafted. I guess Reinhart's strong WJC combined with no more data on Bennett leads to that.

Why? Because the statement was he was better than everyone easy. Even if you think he's the best, its not like he laps the field.

Personally, I think it's a different situation than it was with Monahan. I just think that because Bennett didn't get a chance to play this year when they won gold, he might really want to go.
If we're on a tear and he's a key contributor, I don't think he goes but I think it'll be a lot like Lazar with Ottawa this year. I think Bennett will go and lead the team to gold.

Did you read the post or just comment on part of it? If we're a last place team and not winning at all and he's not having success, you think he'd rather play on a losing team than have a shot at gold at the WJC?? I'm assuming he wants to be in the NHL too but I think if the circumstances are right, he'd want to go and be a leader on the team.

I guess Klimchuk didn't make the honorable mention list? I wouldn't lose site of him yet.

Re: Bennett, do posters just forget that Hartley said he pretty much made the team out of camp this year? And you don't think he'll be on the team next year?

Nope. I fully expect him to play out next season in the OHL.

Regarding Nylander, I thought the reason the Leafs moved him over to the AHL was things they were seeing in his game like sweeping turns (instead of hard stops/starts) and leaving the defensive zone early... things they want to correct in the game for a possibly NHL spot next season.

True but Monahan made a much worse Flames team than the one Bennett will be trying to make next season, and he was also considered a more NHL ready prospect due to his size and style. Plus he wasn't coming off a season where he missed significant time due to an injury. I think Bennett is more likely to not make the team than make it for the entire season

Well Hartley indicated that he made the Flames team this year with a busted shoulder, I cant foresee him not being on the big club next year.
Anything can happen I guess.
