Except that now there is one less team than before that is in Minnesota's situation.
I think Doobie is quite underrated, he managed to post some pretty good numbers with the Oilers and that says something.
And one less pending UFA backup goalie. I still say a better trade is to a better team who relies too heavily on the number one. Nashville maybe? They are heavy on defence and just maybe you could do a deal involving Ramo and one of their D prospects like Dougherty.
I'm not underrating Dubnyk - just saying Ramo is better (IMO of course).
The list of goalies that can compensate for a dog**** team is pretty short. Phoenix is horrible. Mike Smith is 11 months removed from being named to the greatest hockey team ever assembled.
Antoine Vermette is the Coyotes' best forward. He's a 2nd line centre at the absolute best. Mikael Boedker, Keith Yandle, Shane Doan and Martin Hanzal round out the top 5 point getters on that team.
Prime Hasek maybe wills that team to the playoffs in the East. Not a chance in the West.
Mike Smith may not be having a great year, but he's way down the list of that team's problems.
1987 Team Canada says hi.
(sorry to derail)

I like 2002 as well, and Mike Smith at his best doesn't get a goalie spot on that team (which didn't even have the best goalie in Canada on it because he was being a doofus).
sorry to continue the hijack

Yes to all, although I may think keeping Yandle would be a good idea. He and OEL are dynamite on the PP together. I used to be on the trade Yandle bandwagon.
"Maloney has gotten instructions to cut payroll and to go into full rebuild. Mentions that Vermette will be moved"
"Vermette will fetch a decent return because 2nd line centres who are good on faceoffs are highly wanted."
Sabres fans must be livid by now. They thought they had McDavid or Eichel wrapped up thanks to their full burn it down rebuild, only to see Edmonton and Arizona crash and burn as well midway through the season. Plus there's Carolina too ... not to mention that their hopes of the Isles pick being a high lottery pick were destroyed as well.

They are still better off. Even if the Sabres have to go to Strome/Marner, they still have a lot of prospects/assets to turn their team around, far more quicker than what Edmonton and AZ can do.

yeah but that wasn't my point. I just think it's hilarious that a team basically committed to outsuck everybody else this season and suddenly finds itself in such a sad tanking competition. I'm sure the Sabres will be back in the playoffs sooner than Edmonton and Arizona, but it would still be somehow hilarious if they did all this to get McDavid/Eichel and then still missed them both.

Yeah, I get what you mean. I actually think quite a few CPers called it (not me), that around halfway through the season, we would start to find some more teams tanking.
It's funny that Edmonton is still a bottom feeder, because they are actually trying to win .
Too late for Minny. They should've made the trade 20 games ago when it was obvious their goalies couldn't get it done, instead of waiting until now when they have almost no chance of making the playoffs.
