I like that we have Jones on that line, I think having some size on the same line as Johnny is good and he can skate. We don't have a lot of big guys in the top 6, so I think this is a good way to add that size and grit.
I think that Raymond deserves benching again this game coming up. He has struggled and has been given chances to get back in and change his game, I don't think that has happened really. I definitely would have Byron and Jones in before him right now. Maybe not at the start of the season, but now, yes.
Does this continue? Raymond will get back in once others start to struggle, which is inevitable IMO unless he is shipped out before the deadline. I wouldn't hate that, for a pick, any pick, why not. Bring up a youngster, I don't think any of them could do worse. Hell, give a few of the prospects 3 or 4 games at a time and send them back down as a rotation to get them some games with the Flames.

Jones must be thanking his lucky stars right now, has an opportunity to get some points.

This would be fine but when you consider the fact that guys like Jones and Byron are pretty much left to play night in and night out while doing nothing it really makes you wonder.

I'm not a fan of Jones or how much Hartley uses Byronn but Raymond has been awful. He did nothing in 10 games after returning from injury before he was scratched the first time. Even in the game he scored, he had a few lazy giveaways and did very little else the rest of the game.

I'm sure they all have stalls at the dome.

That was at the Dome. There wasn't enough stalls and he's the lowest on the totem pole for having played the fewest NHL games.

It didn't look like the room I've been in. Mind you, that was pre-flood.

I'm pretty sure it was at a visiting arena.

May as well go with Byron over Raymond right now in my mind. Byron's horrid at converting the chances he affords himself with his speed but at least still plays with a certain level of intensity out there every night. He's also seemingly smarter with the puck most nights and I think there's a reason he's remained in the line up, despite so many here thinking he should be scratched.
Raymond's speed is/was one of his greatest assets, and he just isn't using it. It doesn't help that he's making some ill-advised decisions with the puck right now, also. If he's not using his speed, isn't scoring, and isn't bringing any sort of physical element (like Byron), why have him out there?

Asked about advice for escaping the press box, Bob Hartley shrugged.
“It’s not only how you respond being the odd man out,” said the Calgary Flames coach, “it’s how you respond staying in the lineup — that’s the most important thing. ‘Don’t be the odd man out’ — that’s my message to every guy — ‘Don’t make it easy on us.’ It’s all about being involved, being physical, playing the game.
“It’s about getting your nose dirty, jumping in. Don’t feel the water — jump in. Go all out. There’s no speed limits in the NHL. There’s no limits about being involved physically. There’s no limits about driving the net. There’s no limits (about) being the most intense player.
“That’s what we’re asking (from) everyone.”
For the record, Raymond has two hits in 22 appearances this winter.
Another left-winger, Johnny Gaudreau, has four to his credit.
“We’re in the Western Conference over here,” Hartley said. “I said it after Saturday night’s game — it’s all about performing. It’s for everyone. It’s not about veterans versus rookies or nationalities or anything. It’s about what you bring to the Calgary Flames.”
But what happens when a player does slip, when he is shoved out of the lineup?
Climbing back into the head coach’s good graces, what does that take?
“We watch practice, we see their body language,” replied Hartley. “If we feel that a player is happy to be in the stands, well, why change? Because if he’s happy to be in the stands, it’s probably because he doesn’t want to be a difference in a game.
“Or if he goes through the boards in practices, well, he might be sending us a message. Lots of time, we’re going to sit (as a coaching staff) and we’re going to say, ‘Wow, have you seen this guy at practice? Maybe he’s telling us something.’ Every day, it’s an evaluation process.
“We’re in the best league in the world and everyone has to be on their toes.”

Johnny has good balance with his hits. Two of those hits led to goals too IIRC(last game vs Dorsett, and once late in the game that had Wideman scoring...vs the Preds? Canadiens? Can't remember). Both times, I think they had like 30lbs on him.

I believe there are 24 or 25 stalls in the Flames room. Jooris has had one all season, outside of the three or four days when he had to dress on a chair when Smid and Backlund began practicing with the main group again but Potter and Granlund were still with the NHL group.
