Nothing against the guy but I've longed for the day that this team would not employ a goon. Looks like that day has arrived. Great.

We don't know what the teams plans are for McGrattan or what McGrattan's plans are right now. All we know is he is on waivers. Everything else to this point has been speculation.

Yea I'm sure this is also a bit of seeing if there's a team out there that can give Grats ice time. I'm sure Grats loves it in Calgary but I'm sure he'd rather be playing more. The team probably asked him if he wanted to see if there was interest from other teams.

No, but there has been an awful lot of speculation and implication in those directions on CP.
Although it doesn't exclude them, this move does not seem to support those notions.

Sounds like it's "regular" (go play somewhere) waivers, not "unconditional" (contract termination) waivers.

If he clears....could he play in Addy? (would he actually go play in Addy is another question)

Sestito and Gazdic must both be smiling now - though neither one of them plays much, I am sure they were getting awfully tired of getting their faces punched in by McGrattan over the last couple of seasons.
Hate to see him go. One of the classiest out there at what he does. Hope a team out east picks him up. If not, I hope that he finds a role within this organization.

Bollig should be next on Waivers.
He is absolutely terrible.
Time to call up the Bart Chi & Poirier

I don't know what in my post was gloating.
Like the guy. Don't like having a goon on the team.

Seriously sometimes I just shake my head. If you were expecting Bollig's play to resemble that of a 2nd or 3rd line player then yes you should be disappointed but he's a 4th line player for crying loud.

I'm surprisingly sad about this, but its for the best and the writing was on the wall. He wasnt playing and sitting in the pressbox constantly has to suck for the guy.
I loved watching him take Monahan under his wing last year and seeing the kid's confidence really grow as a result.
Good luck Big Ern, hopefully he finds his way back here someday.

Yes. He could if they send him. I assume this is the intent if he clears.
I think this will be an interesting waiver to examine the state of fighting in the NHL. There's no question he is at the top of the heavyweight fighter category, and he's ultra cheap to sign, with no character/locker room issues. So will any team bite? Are there any GMs who want this type of player any more? If so, he will be snapped up. If not, we won't.

Actually I would agree that Bollig has been pretty bad and definitely underwhelming.

Judging by the guys he wants brought in, that's what he expects.
Myself, I was disappointed in his play as a 4th liner when he was behind the play coming back and couldn't get the puck our of the zone. But that improved with Stajan on the line and he was bringing the hits a bit more.
That said, Stajan, Bouma, Jones is a pretty good 4th line.

I assume he clears and then retires. I doubt he will take the assignment to the AHL. Not because he doesn't want to play but because of the personal reasons others here have stated. I would hope at that time the Flames can find a role for him in the organization.
I'm not shocked that he's been waived but I am a little surprised with how quickly the enforcer role died this year. It had been discussed for some time now, as something we would see slowly die out but it seems the entire league just stood up and said "its over" this season.

Sadly, Bollig's not even a good 4th liner. He often hurts the team when he's on the ice. Yes he's a better player than McGrattan, but just barely.
