My beef certainly isn't with the 'new' stats, only with some of the conclusions drawn from them.

The goal isn't to increase shots for in and of itself, it is to drive the play and control it more of the time. While shots for is a surrogate for that, it shouldn't be the actual goal. You don't solve the problem by saying 'we need to take more shots'. Trying to satisfy the metric doesn't fix the actual issue necessarily.

Yeah can you imagine if we oilered it up like skate over the blue line, take a long shot, whoo CORSI DING DING.

Can you imagine Johnny getting possession of the puck and taking a shot from the blue line..

(in fairness to the oilers, it looks like their new coach maybe cares less about advanced stats)

Colborne NEVER shoots the puck unless he's within about 2 feet of the net. Or at least he hasn't since coming back from the injury. Almost think its still effecting him shooting.

But I think that's where he should be (and below the red line).

At the mid-point, CGY is 53.8% to make the playoffs.

Looks like WIN and CGY will fight for the 8th spot.

Winnipeg is no good. Start the thread!
