The Toronto media must be insufferable to deal with day in and day out.

It's not just the constant MLSE meddling but the local media second guessing pretty well every single move the head coach makes on a daily basis. It's like Leafs media isn't happy unless they are writing a controversial piece about the coach or players, etc. The entire environment is pretty toxic.

The fact that war on ice uses virtually the same colour for both teams does not help at all. But what I liked about it is that in the 30-minute period where Toronto generated only one shot attempt at five on five, Winnipeg had about 20. This despite the fact that half the time was spent with one team or another on a man-power advantage.

It has also been noted around Twitter that guys who were poor possession players under Carlyle got a lot better after leaving Toronto. That guys who were good under Wilson turned to crap under Carlyle, and that there are guys who were good pre-Carlyle, crappy under him and good post-Carlyle. In short, Carlyle's system was terrible.

Another image of how the Leafs got bludgeoned in terms of shot attempts under Carlyle. It wasn't a short term trend or bad period of play. The Leafs were consistently and constantly out shot game after game after game. Orange bar is where Carlyle is hired:

i used to, and still hate the leafs, which was built up growing up in Calgary. Now i live in TO, have been for 10 years (15 years if you include university in ontario).

What i have realized is that the media here is a frigin ridiculous. The team wins 2 games in a row and they are talking about how their players are amazing and need to be extended, and if they lose 2 they are trading everyone away, firing the coach/gm. This absolutely creeps into the dressing room. With the leafs lacking any real leaders last season, it is no surprise they went on the massive losing run that cost them the playoffs.

In fairness, Feschuck is an idiot. Kessel needs to know better though.

They always won more than you'd guess from their shot attempts though.

Yes they did. But not enough to be anything but mediocre in the end.

The Flames and Leafs have identical 21-16-3 records, yet the atmosphere around each team couldn't be more different.

It's like two teams passing on the stairs... one on the way up and one on the way down.

The Oilers corpse is lying on the basement floor at the bottom of the stairs.

Seriously? Look at their shots against. Of course an assistant can improve that.

If Maclean and Deboer can be fired, why not Carlyle?

Idiotic question. Nothing wrong with Kessel's reaction.

Also, was CBC's headline under the video intentional (Kessel gets testy with reporter)? Didn't Kessel have testicular cancer once? Kind of in bad taste.

I honestly don't know why Kessel is such a target for the media.

Also in bad taste, but Ron Wilson said a coach would have to have balls to bench Kessel when he was bashing him earlier.

Kessel is a nice guy who survived cancer. It's stupid he's been bashed more than any player the past few years.

And CBC loves the Leafs, right guys?
