I hope the owner is ok. And a tip of the hat to him for an awesome site.
Considering the traffic and respect that it got, I would imagine that there will be others looking to jump in and fill the void pretty quickly

I know NHLNumbers.com used to be run by a Calgarian who I went to school with. It got sold though, so I don't know if he's still involved.
The toughest thing to replace about capgeek.com will be the guy's inside sources. He broke salary news before major media outlets a lot. He had a huge network of trusted sources.

That's just it. It wasn't just a matter of scouring media reports, this guy has some really good informants and really good CBA knowledge. There is a reason why most of the competitor sites folded and his site lasted.

Does anyone think he will sell it? I'm guessing he can cash in on this.

The thing I miss most so far about CapGeek is the waiver eligibility lookup on players, and whether players had NTC/NMC clauses of some kind on their contracts. The salaries and contract lengths are fine on nhlnumbers. There just isn't much else there.

Thats pretty much the point of all the crowdfunding websites though. Pay me to help develop my product to sell because you like the idea.

I wonder if maybe the reason he doesn't want inquiries about selling the site is because he already made an agreement with someone else and it is just going to take time for them get it up and running the way they want it.
Personally, while I like the site and use it enough, I would never pay for it.

That makes more sense to me as well. You would think he would want it to continue in good hands and with a party of his choice, whether he monitizes it or not.

I would have thought a buyer would insist on it being kept up. I knew a business owner who blew a sale of his business because he went dark after the sale (to save $ I guess) and the buyer said it was a fundamental breach. Shutting down the site risks it being overtaken by another one before the takeover. If a buyer wanted to change it, it's easy enough to do without a complete shutdwn. Lots of sites do that.
The site was hanging up a fair bit just before is shut down - obviously he wasn't able to maintain it. It's too bad - it is a valuable asset. It doesn't need to be a pay site - look at any number of free public sites/apps that get bought for lots of money due to ad potential (Bingo awaits your offers).

Saw this on Twitter today, obviously not nearly as good as Capgeek, but it's something.
