3-2 Russia wins. Did anyone on here expect Russia to get by the USA. It's not a shocker but I thought USA had the much better team overall personally. Penalty trouble probably did them in.

Monahan and Gaudreau should get it done...

Didn't this happen last year as well? Russia choked it out at the end of the pool stage and then knocked out the US? Or am I dreaming?

Between the Russians and the Americans, I cheered for the Americans.
Will be very disappointing for them to be going home so early considering all the talent they have.
On the plus side, at least we still get to cheer for our prospect

Its incredibly difficult to play from behind against the Russians. Breaking the Russians is usually fairly easy, a couple of goals will usually do it, but if they get the lead and get rolling they're a tough opponent.

Yup, Russia also defeated the US in last year's QFs.

Ugh. No kidding. They were two men down before they were two minutes in (and the Russians scored on it). Five minors in the first period alone. Just seemed like they couldn't get it going after that.

I'm not terribly surprised, actually. They bombed Germany, but the Slovak game was close on the scoreboard (if not the shot clock), they needed a shootout against Finland and were handily outplayed by Canada. For all the pre-tournament hype, the Americans simply didn't bring much to this event this year.

I was more commenting on the idea that Werenski is close to Hanifin. For my money the list of top D-men would look like this:

1. Hanifin
l
l
l
l
v
2. Kylington
3. Werenski
4. Provorov

I don't know much about Jeremy Roy so I won't comment on him but I will add Brandon Carlo as an honorable mention as I think he's going to be a good egg. Has looked pretty good in this WJC.

And Just like that, with the Fins lack of scoring this game is essentially over with a 3-1 Sweden lead. That Sweden/Russia game is going to be a Dandy if that is how this shakes out.

Can't deny that it's Rantanen who has been scoring for Finland in the tournament and also getting many of the scoring chances.

Rantanen Drew that penalty and is making things happen on the PP now. I think the coaches clued in his size and net presence is a boost to their PP.
