Yeah, it's basically:

Giordano
Brodie
<a small gap>
Russell
<a moderate gap>
Wideman
<another gap>
Smid
<big gap>
Engelland/Diaz/Potter

Potter is no better than what we have. Maybe worse. If you ask me this was the perfect opportunity to call up Wotherspoon but Treliving signed all these pylons to contracts so it's to be expected he is going to use them.

That's the way I see it other than I feel there's a moderate gap between Brodano and Russell. Russell in my mind is a decent #4.

Sadly I don't think the gap between Smid and the 3 #7 defensemen is very big at all. Smid was ok in Edmonton but he hasn't been impressive in any way (besides fighting Bieksa) since coming here.

Diaz gets ripped on a lot but at the end of the day he is on a one year 700k contract while Smid and Engelland are some of our higher paid players

@SUNGilbertson: #Flames head coach Bob Hartley told reporters today D Ladislav Smid "is going to be out for awhile."

BS...

Get Grats up to speed with skating and have him start breaking faces, this week I've seen us beat up by TO, BUF, and PIT because no one does a damn thing.

Safe to assume this is a concussion or has there be something else mentioned?

The way the hit looked, it seems like a head/neck sort of injury.

a little late to the party, but seeing how Pittsburgh has already played a game it doesn't look like any supplemental action. Too bad.

I was hoping to see a Smid/Wotherspoon combo as they seemed to have a good thing going late last season so kind of a double blow with the injury and non-callup. I honestly don't know a great deal about Potter so I will reserve judgement until I see what he can do.

I can't believe Despres isn't getting anything. Deplorable.

It is really unbelievable.

Head shot, left his feet, player gets injured. I'm guessing if that was Sidney Crosby that was on the receiving end of a hit like that there'd be a lot of discussion about it. Makes the league look pretty silly.

According to the AHL Transaction page, Potter was sent to Adirondack this morning.

Shame. I wanted to see him play a game instead and Diaz out.

Probably just for the Christmas Break. Unless Smid is coming back, he will probably be called up soon enough

Any chance to get former Oilers who've suffered under Lowe's regime, in the lineup against them, you'll get 100% the most out of them.

Why else would you have Staios on the ice with under 2 mins to go in a one goal game as the Flames are making a late season playoff surge, in a game they were down 3-0 early? (Though Staios was more than acceptable that year here). Because, Oilers.

Another former Oiler (familiar announce team) in that magical game last March:
