If Calgary was near the basement again this year but the young players were progressing nicely and the team was playing an enjoyable brand of hockey, I doubt they'd have trouble selling tickets.
well they already aren't selling out every game...and last season at the end of the year I was being offered free tickets left and right nearing the end of the year.

again I am not saying blow all their money on bad contracts, just that they should be ready to spend at any moment to help the team. That could even mean the infamous taking a bad contract with a prospect we have all been dreaming off.

Nothing new here, the Flames ownership has been willing to spend to the cap since the first lockout.

No credit for Gio?? The guy is being one of if not the best leader in the league right now.

If you are judging the value of a team’s tickets by the size of their payroll, logically, the Oilers are a better value than the Flames because they are spending more money.

If the logic you are using leads to a foolish conclusion, maybe you need to reconsider it.

Maybe Burke was already aware of Gio's leadership / abilities and it's not for him a reason why we are doing better than he thought, because he'd factored that in.

The last 2 are great comments by Burke. One, he probably needed to be sold on Hartley, a guy hired by a GM he deemed not good enough. Two, being able to admit and give credit to Feaster (although it would be hard not to) for the job he did is really cool. Especially considering he's saying we are beating his expecations. When he fired Feaster, he likely didn't think Feaster had done as good a job as he did with the prospects, so it's nice he's able to say as much, versus try to somehow take credit for their progress by saying it was his development system or something.

I agree with everything except for the Bollig comment. In my opinion, the addition of Bollig has done nothing to help the Flames.

Save the ticket prices discussion for another thread. The point that scares me and should scare most fans is the potential is now here to go completely off course when things have been going so well. To go out and spend a bunch of money, potentially get locked into pricey long term deals and ruin team chemistry (which is the biggest thing the Flames have going for them right now) would be beyond foolish at this point.

This team needs to continue to do what it has been doing. Stay the course and start looking at additions in the off season. If we manage to make the playoffs with the current group its a bonus and should be treated as such.

Lowe lying bloodied on the ground: "But I know something about winning!!"

As hes swallowing his own teeth and Burke is walking away slowly while fixing his tie....

In this fight, would Lowe take off his 6 Stanley Cup rings like a man, or wear them to try and gain advantage?

I think Burke's surprise about our early success and the addition of Bollig are connected. I believe that our management team was concerned that we would be too small and not ready to compete for a year or two. They brought in Bollig and Engelland to protect the young guys until we were ready to take a shot at a playoff spot.

Turns out we don't really need them as our group had progressed to the point where those guys aren't necessary. I expect both to spend a lot of time observing in the near future.

Good article that explains the situation...
wow! thanks for the article

Quote:
“It got a point where Kevin challenged me to a fight on a radio interview,” Burke told Jurksztowicz. “I’m like that’s not really how you challenge a guy to a fight. If you want to challenge a guy to a fight, you pick a place and a time and you show up. So I called Glen Sather and I said, ‘Look, this guy went on the radio and challenged me to a fight.’ I said, ‘I’m going to be at Lake Placid at the U.S. junior camp.” I gave him three dates. I told him I’d rent a barn and I’d pick the address and the time and I’d fight Kevin Lowe.

And you were serious, Jurksztowicz asked?

“Dead serious. It got to the point where Gary Bettman called me an and said, ‘I hear you guys are thinking about having a fight and if you do I’m going to suspend you both indefinitely.’ That’s how crazy it got between me and Kevin. He’s as stubborn as I am. And there’s no doubt in my mind if we had bumped into each other right about then, we would have fought. No question. He’s not afraid of me. We would have fought for sure. Anyway, my wife overhears this, I think I’m in the privacy of my backyard in California and my wife says, ‘You idiot. You’re going to fight this guy? Are you crazy? You’re a general manager. So it never came to anything, never came close to it.”
