Lane MacDermid wore 28 for a handful of games last year.

I imagine they don't unofficially retire a number until the player himself is done playing. Regher would be on the bubble as far as that's concerned. Iggy is obviously still playing too, but since he's a lock to be "retired" they wouldn't give a guy his number only to take it away in, say 4 years.

Honestly don't give two pinches of coon poop what number they are....put a frikkin' exclamation point on the blouse for all I care. I am also of the thought that if it isn't actually retired then wear it.

If anything, I'd expect Granlund to take 26 since that's the number he's been wearing in the AHL.
Wotherspoon was given 26 in July

Thanks. I guess I did miss that, or forgot. I was thinking he still wore 56 during training camp, but I guess he didn't play during the preseason, so that's why I don't remember him wearing 26.

Burke needs to get over his ridiculously pointless old-man rules, and let players wear whatever they want (as long as its not a retired number of course). As a fan, its getting hard to distinguish players on the ice these days as the numbers are so condensed together. The only ones that are easy to recognize are the kids who haven't be subjected to this silly rule.

What's wrong with having some brand recognition on an individual basis? I know there's some BS reason about "not being above the team" but if being a 50 instead of a 5 is what divides your lockeroom, then your team chemistry is terrible to begin with.

Sounds like him and Johnny already get along pretty well:

Johnny hockey or Johnny romantic? Interesting movie choice #thenotebook @johngaudreau03 pic.twitter.com/k7CuWiMvvR

Now he just needs to change his twitter description from "Calgary Flames Prospect" to simply "Calgary Flames".

With Jooris staying up, and likely Baertschi + Ferland going down soon, this looks like Granlund is up until Backlund is good to go, barring a move to trade from depth, or giving up on the enforcer in McGrattan.

These players coming back and Gaudreau + Jooris being told they are staying puts not only Granlund on notice, but Byron as well

We all know about Burke's low number mantra, but has Brad Treliving said something similar about it?

I thought the Flames typically put rookies with veterans for living situations (they were talking about putting Gaudreau with Russel before?).

Edmonton used to room rookies together didn't they?

The teams can't really tell a grown man who has to live with. I think they would have preferred Gaudreau stay with Russell, but at the end of the day he can do whatever he wants.
