Yes, Burke signed Hiller as an undrafted FA in Anaheim, but he also had to make a choice and chose Hiller over Bryzgalov and then at some point, Hiller shows up in Calgary.

I dont know if Burke had any hand in that, but the coincidence seems uncanny.

What other goalie were they going to sign? Ryan Miller? I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence.

I know it is going to sound lame but sometimes being a good manager is what you DON'T do as well as what you do. I like that they didn't come in and try to make a big splash by putting their stamp on the team and trading prospects who weren't quite ready etc.

Both of them watched and processed what they had including the coaching staff.

I think Browna's point is Burke and Treliving are calmly going about their business making solid evaluations. They have taken the emotion out of decision making and lord knows that needed to be done. They are just starting to move the way they need to. As money comes off the books over the next two years, I think you will see even better moves in terms of organizational development.
