Anyone know of any solid outdoor rinks in the NE section of the inner city (i.e. Renfrew/Bridgeland etc.)?

Confederation Pk is not too far away and it's a nice rink.

A couple friends and I were looking for a place in that area last night, took a look at Renfrew, pretty small and no boards, ended up at Crescent Heights which was slightly better, decent ice with half boards but no mesh on the nets.
Might try Rosedale or Banff Trail next time which might be getting too far west for what you are looking for.
Rosemont (Confederation Park) apparently won best outdoor skating rink a few years ago but if I remember correctly it doesn't have boards.

This bump reminds me I need to set up the rink this weekend. We are doubling the size of the rink to 30' x 50 '
Can't wait.

Make sure you know that a flat yard is not the same as a level yard. I have a flat yard that slopes, which is not a problem in itself. I use the Nicerink in a box from Costco Canada. ( Nice rink is a US company ,they have a lot of info on the web site.)order a new white tarp every year.
I have a 16 by 32 foot rink with a deep end of water about 3 feet high because of the slope. You build it like an above ground swimming pool.
I also used a water truck to fill it last year which took about 20 30 minutes as opposed to a 10-12 hour fill with a garden hose.
PM me if you want any more info. My rinks usually start mid early November and last til April. I'm located in Calgary.

I am a do it myself.
I got a line on used 2x10 which are 10' long. Like you I have a slope, only minor. My shallow end it 4-5 inches, deep end is 10-12 inches. I build the sides, about 2-3 ft up. I pound re-bar into the ground to help with the expansion. For a liner, I use vapour barrier, works great.
Filling, yeah that takes a long time. I have found that the best approach is to put the hose on early in the evening and leave it run while you go out to the pub.
When I get home around 2 it is usually perfect.
Edit: key point, the liner should be approx 2 feet overlap all the way around. Also, don't attach the line to the wood. It will rip and when you get home half cut you will see all the water in the rink has leaked out (trust me on this).

I miss outdoor hockey.
I used to love going to community rinks with boards and nets and impress 12 year olds with slapshots that missed the net 9 times out of 10. But they didn't care The power impressed them.

Flooded my back yard rink yesterday. Had a great freeze over night. Hopefully in use early next week. Rink size is 16 x 36 feet.
