No kidding.

You mean the Roman Horak who plays centre? That Roman Horak?

How about the Roman Horak thats leading his KHL team with 16 points in 21 games? Him?

I think it has less to do with Horak being unable to crack the Oilers lineup and more to do with the Oilers just being no good.

I'm not sure if he's seen this video:

We got one of the few Oilers that actually had heart

In a "fleecing" one might think that the team doing the "fleecing" would be improved.

What did it get them? Some marginal cap relief.

What did they spend the cap relief on? Nothing, they aren't a cap team. Nor will they probably be during Smid's contract tenure due to a lack of good players.

Smid may not have fit into their plans, nor be a particularly great player.

But a "fleecing"? That's a laugh when the trade did absolutely nothing to improve the team. A "fleecing" would be acquiring Brodie for Smid.

They are roughly a Brodie short of a "fleecing".

Definitely one of the most blatant hack jobs I have ever read after comparing his "before and after" viewpoints of the trade.

We have more depth now, but I wouldn't mind getting a guy like Horak back, I really liked his game. I felt bad for him after we traded him and it sucked that we had to include him to get a piece that we needed. But if they're not going to use him, I'd have him back in a second. I would imagine he's at least on par with a guy like Granlund.

What a goofy article. He uses statistics to show that Smid is one of the worst defenders in Calgary, then concludes that Smid is terrible and that Smid was only good with Petry without any evidence whatsoever. Willis is a Turkey.

Lets see.

the Oilers traded us Smid, a serviceable lower pairing defensemen who filled and continues to fill a need for.

A goalie that does ok in the ECHL but gets absolutely murdered in the AHL and looks to be nowhere near NHL calibre.

And a good to decent prospect center, that would have filled a dire need for the Oilers if Mac-T could have shown him the value of staying and trying to fill that need, instead he takes one look at a future with the Oilers and flees to Europe.

I mean, wow based on the stats and numbers that you can make look like anything you want. yeah I still don't see how his little piece of Oiler inspired propaganda is anywhere near true.

In other news, the sky is blue and crack tastes like peaches.

I met Laddy this year and told him "Anyone who likes Calgary and hates Edmonton -- they love you man".

He had a good laugh

With Smid in the lineup in 2012-2013, the Oilers finished 24th overall in the league.

Without smid in the lineup in 2013-2014, the Oilers finished 28th.

Even if Smid did falter (which he didn't) as a player, or even became a marginal NHL player (which he hasn't), we would still win the trade. Seeing as it looks like there's a strong chance neither Horak or Brossoit become regular NHLers (Brossoit still in the ECHL? and Horak may very well stay over in Europe). Now correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't NHL player trump minor pro players?

What's your logic here Oil media? Also even if one of those guys become an NHL player, neither are going to be spectacular by any measure, so how was it "fleecing" exactly?

Colborne, who is playing at nearly a PPG, being acquired from Toronto for a 4th was fleecing. A 2nd acquired for Berra who will be a mediocre backup at best was fleecing. This trade was in no shape or form a "fleecing", especially not by the Oilers. If anything, the Flames did, by getting an actual NHL regular for (hate to put it this way cause I like those guys) spare parts.

smh....

Seriously. Do they want Cundari and Roy for Petry now?

Brossoit's AHL numbers are ugly:

2014-15 : OKC : 2 GP | 8 GA | 52 Saves | 4.07 GAA | 0.867 SV% | 0W/2L
2013-14 : OKC : 8 GP | 25GA | 199Saves | 3.60 GAA | 0.888 SV% | 2W/5L
2013-14 : ABB : 2 GP | 9 GA | 42 Saves | 5.72 GAA | 0.824 SV% | 0W/1L

In his defense, he doesn't have any.

I'm not sure either team got an NHL player or lost anything of value so it's a weird trade to revisit.

Even more bizarre that someone would spend energy on an article comparing performance of bottom pairing plugs. Maybe next he'll revisit the career arcs of Harvey and MacT and declare a winner in the tongue grab of 2007 (or whenever it was)

That was my thinking too. There are a lot of other trades to break down and compare, but he chose to use this trade with the hated Flames to spew his anti-Flames sentiment. He didn't even give the audience any relevant information to prove his point. What a hack.

This is someone that is trying to justify things in his own mind. He can't handle that the Oilers #1 rival ripped them off in a trade and is building an argument to "prove" that they not only didn't get ripped off, but in fact did the ripping off.

Reality is not really something that Oilers fans are too in touch with though. The reality is that the Oilers received nothing of consequence for a young solid #4/5 defenseman, something that they even now could use on their team.
