I've been using a Logitech Attack 3, and it does the trick. Love these games. Hopefully enough people buy them in this release to make them look at developing new ones. They really don't have to improve on the gameplay or graphics much (from X-Wing Alliance) or whatever to make me happy. Just more good storylines and missions.

No doubt JR was superior in every way. Unfortunately as a kid, my PC didn't do JR so well so I was limited to playing it at a friend's.
I remember purchasing the last copy of the CD re release of JR from Costco in red deer years later, only to get home and find no disc inside. The re release of 25th that I played was better than the original though, with music, dialog etc.

There really isn't a whole lot out there for flightsticks. I am tempted to grab a Saitek X55 Rhino which I could then use for modern games like Elite Dangerous and War Thunder. But I am not sure I want to spend $200 on a joystick.

The special edition of the 25th anniversary on CD has all the voices and stuff. Judgement Rites also had a sound & video pack to add voices and CG cutscenes to it. I remember actually buying that damn thing for $20 as a kid and it came on EIGHT FLOPPIES. It was DLC before DLC.

I remember bootlegging Quake using the disk spanning feature in winrar/zip and jt was a ridic number of disks, 40 maybe?
That Quake shareware CD with iDs catalog "locked" and available for purchase was another source of much fun for young me.

I call your Judgement Rites, and raise you the Wing Commander 2 speech pack. It wasn't really DLC though, a lot of people just didn't have sound cards then.

Loved WC2 speech pack. My jaw dropped when I first got yelled at by Tolwyn.
I was so used to the type of sound that came out of the 2 tone PC speakers.

Tie-Fighter was amazing, we need more games based on the bad guys.
I'm going to build a space sim setup with Oculus once Star Citizen is released and get a modern HOTAS set up I think.

Just so you don't throw out a perfectly awesome joystick (like me ) http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX666

FS2 was my favorite space sim for sure. I just realized it's on Steam so I'm going to buy it and play it again. Wicked!
There kept being rumours of FS3 but nothing ever came of it. Some company bought the rights to the name for like $8,000 and then never did anything with it.

There are TONS of fan made content for FreeSpace 2, so I would suggest looking around for that if you want more of that kind of stuff.

Downloaded it last night and started the first chapter where your helping to keep the rebel scum trapped on Hoth.
Of course I took the secret mission of inspecting boxes and got jumped by a flight of z-95 head hunters.
I caught myself making tie fighter noises and laser noises as I relentlessly shot the scum out of the sky
