How much of this do you think is a product of Colborne's recent inexperience at playing the centre ice position?
That's a good question.
Monahan doesn't have much more NHL experience at C than Colborne, but is better positionally.
I'm sure that is part of it (Colborne's inexperience at C), but I think at least part of it is simply styles - Colborne, Raymond and Gaudreau can look like the Oiler Swarm at times.
Some line combinations just don't work.

So this is on City TV? Weird...I didn't know that was a thing that was happening. Telus isn't showing this as being in HD, even on the City TV HD channel, so hopefully that's just a glitch.

Speaking of glitches, nhl.com has caused a happy one with my NHL Vault account (Centre Ice is not available in Norway). Ordinarily, I have to wait 48 hours to watch a full game, but since Monday have been able to watch EVERYTHING within hours of the scheduled original broadcast. Looking forward to watching the game at work first thing tomorrow AM.

City is showing the Ron McLean hosted "Hometown Hockey" games on Sunday nights as part of the 12 year Rogers deal.
Very happy to see Johnny back in the line up and I really like the sounds of that gaudreau-backlund-Raymond line. I agree with what was said earlier that backlund will help get the puck out of the zone more than colborne as the center and that means Johnny can get the puck with speed in the neutral zone - he is deadly carrying the puck into the offensive zone with speed. Plus he'll probably have lots of jump in his step from resting for a game and watching. Also sounds like he looked good in practice yesterday. Really hoping he has a big game tonight. Everyone eat some skittles before the game today for some good luck for Johnny.

Likely Stajan, Glencross and Setoguchi are the "buried in their own zone" line in terms of deployments. Worried about Setoguchi being relied upon to get puck out of zone consistently.

Puting Gaudreau with Backlund is a smart move. Putting Monahan and Colborne back together is a smart move.
Backlund over the last two games has become that puck possession monster in the offensive zone again that helped him break out a bit last season. I suspect this leads to better puck touches for Johnny and all Raymond needs to do is find an open slot to shoot from. Could be a very dangerous line tonight.

I have hope that the experience of this line gels quickly tonight.
Would really like to see the flames start using the old Detroit strategy again for entering the zone on a powerplay... The one where gaudreau or hudler follow the rest of the team up the ice and receive a drop pass to freeze up the defensive positioning of the other team allowing gaudreau or hudler to weave their way across the blue line with speed to set up in the offensive zone. The flames were using in the preseason and in the first few games... It seemed to work really well most of the time for at least entering the zone to setup the powerplay. Not sure why it was abandoned.
