What does that mean? I'm ok with Johnny sitting but it stings a little that jooris gets first line time right away whereas Johnny didn't even get one crack there yet.

Roger Millions @RogMillions
#Flames Gaudreau.. says he's learning a lot. If he plays tonight or not he will get the most out of either situation. Good kid.

You never know, Gaudreau could very well benefit from this rest. Probably overwhelmed, thinking he isn't making any contribution to the team when in fact he is. If he has to sit for a game or two, I am okay with that. I do want to see a little bit from Jooris, another unsigned player who has worked his butt off and it's paid dividends. I really hope Jooris scores a goal or dishes out an assist tonight, he deserves it.

Yup, baffling decision by Hartley. Not a fan.

I'm not 100% against him sitting for a game if necessary, but I'd be a lot more ok with it if he had been given a few more opportunities on the PP and OT, as I think those are the situations where a shifty guy like him could really shine and gain confidence. But I haven't really seen him being given those opportunities....zero OT time the last two games, and I can't recall him being on the PP much either.

It's too early to get Debbie-downer on this, but Hartley's coaching does tend to be good at sucking the confidence right out of the young kids.

Kent Wilson@Kent_Wilson
Gaudreau has the 4th best possession rate on the team. Sigh.

Don't really get Hartley but I'll guess he'll get the team some wins. I guess that's all that matters.

Good news for our 2 top LW prospects. Going well for them.

I would probably be frustrated with this decision if Gaudreau was then dispatched to the AHL before the road trip ends, and before the Flames are back at the Dome. In the end, I wonder if the coaches are monitoring him for other things right now than offensive production and confidence.

Personally I think giving the kid a night off is the right call. Let him rest a night and give him some games back on home ice.

The kid has driven possession at times, but has also been tentative the rest of the time and IMO there has been times where he looks afraid of getting hurt out there.

Plus last year it was November 23rd when Gaudreau played his 14th game, this year it came on October 16th. That is a pretty big transition for a kid not used to playing an 82 game season, both Hanowski and Knight mentioned how much it impacted their play last season.

Just blindly throwing your top prospects onto the ice and giving them top PP and ice time leads to the situation in Edmonton.

Have some patience and let these kids actually develop.

Kent Wilson....use your friggin eyes once in a while.

Gaudreau is going to be wicked and I am a big fan but he is missing the Tabasco from his Cesar right now. He seems like the type of kid that will totally take advantage of the birds eye view if he sits.

Stats don't tell the whole tale....for ex...right now I am 100% possessing my keyboard but no actual work is getting done.

The Flames are an awful possession team. Scratching the 4th best possession player on the team will hurt. There is no question.

My guess is Kent watches more hockey than you do.

Gaudreau was great last game and got better as it went on. Made some great plays that linemates failed to capitalize on. The stat line just supports that claim.

There is no justifican here.

Patience schmatience Hartley should stop sheltering him and throw him off the deep end so the armchair coaches and weenie stats guys can be more comfortable.

I am betting on another 2-2 game in regulation.

Blue Jackets are a big tough team, I like the decision to play Jooris instead of Gaudreau tonight. A day of rest won't hurt Gaudreau.

No to single you out, but this is starting to become a personal pet peeve..can we please stop comparing every single situation to Edmonton already?

There are 28 other teams in the league to look at to see how rookies are handled. Why not look at how actual successful teams handle prospects instead of always being afraid of being Edmonton. How did the Sharks handle Hertl? How did the Canes handle Skinner? How did the Bruins handle Krug? What about the Avs and their young kids? Or the Jets with Trouba? Let's look at how those teams are handling their kids and learn from that...not always just be paralyzed by the suck that's up north.

I know you like to push the Hartley ruined Sven agenda but IMO Sven looked 100 times better in his 200ft play this pre-season.

From all accounts he has been one of the few players that is playing well for Addy so far, and looks like he is combining his offensive game with a stronger defensive game.

Maybe let the process actually run itself out before acting like we are ruining all of our prospects.

I am sure it was all doom and gloom when Hartley made Backlund and Brodie healthy scratches as well....how is that working out?
