What you're describing is a huge cultural (religious? Not sure...) practice that clearly doesn't align with more "modern" Western beliefs. Aren't arranged marriages still commonplace in places like Pakistan, etc?

OP are your cousins unhappy? I don't think their parents are bad people -- they were obviously raised a certain way and probably don't know any different. I suspect your cousins were raised the same way -- you use words like dumb and stupid but do you really think that's the case? You are certainly entitled to your opinion but otherwise who are you to judge? Different strokes for different folks...

Have your kids whenever you please. My advice however would be not to wait until your 40 or something. You at least wanna be able to keep up with them in a game of road hockey for a couple years at least

I had a child at 19 and 33. Waaaaay harder energy wise at 33, but waaaay more rewarding and enjoyable

I've heard the opposite - having them when you're younger (like mid-20s) means that you can relate to your kids and near their later teens and early 20s actually become friends secondary to being a parent, which sounds like a really nice relationship to have.

But I won't be having kids until I'm in my mid-30s and the sooner my parents embrace that, the better.

Totally. Relationship wise it's great. though in these teenage years, relating is always difficult unless you are into teenage girls and hanging out with teenage boys.

I just mean the appreciation of all the little things and enjoyment of your child's accomplishments gets greater as you age. Generally, you're more selfish when you're younger and don't appreciate the joys of parenting as much. The energy to do things is much greater though

So you swing both ways? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The only thing parents should be influencing their children to do, is believe that Edmonton is no good.
