That's how every web browser works with text. It ignores anything more than one space because people writing HTML want to be able to format the underlying code on a page in a way that makes it easy to read when coding but don't want it to display in the browser that way.

You can do multiple spaces by adding non-breaking spaces " " but the forum software converts that to plain text, so you can't add nbsp's to your posts here.

Because you seem like one of those people that isn't happy unless you are ridiculing others. Why else would you find it "hilarious" that a group of people who grew up in an era where double spacing was the norm still use double spacing? Shall we make fun of senior citizens that are computer illiterate while we are at it?

Double-spacing improves readability even in modern proportional fonts. I find there's also a subtle but noticeable psychological effect when typing something out and linking the conclusion of your sentence with an easy but memorable physical action (the double-space tap). Such a link helps prevent run-on sentences, or the inadvertent incompletion of a sentence. <Unconscious mind> Did I finish that thought? Yes! I unconsciously remember the distinct double-space feeling! </Unconscious Mind>

The fact that you kids didn't even know that double-spacing was a "thing" is more troubling than us dinosaurs who refuse to abandon it. You're going to have a hard time learning to double-space when the apocalypse comes and we're without electricity!

My iPad automatically makes it one space, and Apple rules the world, so single space is correct

I'm over 40 and can't remember ever double spacing. Were we taught that in typing class? I work with lots of documnets and double spacing would make a mess, I can't stand working in word when there's extra spaces, spaces instead of tabs, etc.

Haha, there hasn't been enough misogyny on this site for Psycnet to outlet his righteous indignation, so you knew it was going to show up somewhere. May as well be here.

You should hear my dad, he's 75, type on a computer. It sounds like he's beating the bloody thing to a pulp. When I was I kid he would be on his old mechanical typewriter for several hours a day.

Talk about old and not breaking a habit. I took him to the library one time a few years back so he could get on the internet and access his email. all the other surfers stopped and stared, he was pounding away at 80 words a minute.

I got a good chuckle.

I use double space, I was taught that in high school, everything I learned in high school was correct and still is.
