“Playing for Patrick Roy (in the QMJHL), I think he emphasized work ethic and that has stuck with me throughout my career,” Culkin said prior to Sunday's pre-season date with the Colorado Avalanche in Denver.
“I was so privileged to work with him for three years. He really pushed me hard. I'm here, and a big part of that is thanks to him.
“Every time he comes to the rink, you could see it in his eyes — he wants nothing less than perfect.”

On Friday, the 6-foot-2, 195-lb. rearguard faced off against the Sedin twins in Vancouver — “That was pretty cool.”
On Sunday in the Mile High City, Culkin was on the opposite bench as Roy, his head coach for three campaigns with the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts and the winner of the Jack Adams Award last season after accepting the top job in Colorado.
“Patrick has always played basically the same system and I did, so for Ryan, the adjustment is kind of very easy,” Hartley said. “I like what I see from Ryan. Talking about the body language, talking about the composure out there ... Here's a young man that I think has progressed, has gained muscle weight a lot through the last two seasons. That's the reason he's still with us.”

There's no chance that Ferland and Jones are competing for the same spot. Ferland, Baertschi, Bennett, Granlund, Gaudreau, Reinhart, Bryon, Bolling, McGrattan, Wolf are all competing for the last 3 forward spots.

Jones is very safe in his position on the team.

McGratton plays a role and Hartley loves him, he's not competing with anyone for his spot.
Byron has impressed yet again and Hartley called him an NHLer last year so he's sticking.
Bollig, 1-way, spent a 3rd to get him. Likely sticks

Pretty much all the prospects you mentioned will likely end up going down since playing the 4th line or being in the press box wont help them much.

Pretty much all the prospects you mentioned will likely end up going down since playing the 4th line or being in the press box wont help them much.

Just because a prospect gets the last spot in the roster doesn't mean they get stuck in the pressbox. JG could end up on the second line with McGratten, Byron, Bouma or others taking turns sitting out.
