It would be much more helpful if you used words to mean what they actually mean instead of expecting readers to interpret your new definitions for words. "Rage" does not in any sense mean "very sure of (one's) point."

I said beginning to plateau to be clear. It's just my impression, but nothing he has done at the AHL level has translated to the NHL level. From his first call up a couple years ago to these preseason games, he's looked relatively the same. I understand he had a big jump last year, and he's already producing at a PPG rate in the AHL, so I don't know how much higher he can go, but I doubt it's much more than that. To me if he doesn't start showing that he can improve his game at the NHL level then I think he's reached his peak in terms of that level. I'm hoping for more obviously, but he'll be 23 this year and his 3rd year pro, so the odds are that we are seeing nearly the complete progression for him.

I think if he looks much the same this time next year then you are clearly correct. He was always one of those players who was going to require several years of development to make it to the NHL, and I don't think he has played nearly enough at that level to get a sense one way or the other about how well his game will translate. It is still way too early in my opinion to be seeing the end of his progression.

Fair enough, I just have never even seen a glimpse of that kind of skill at the NHL level, which would indicate he has more upside still or is beginning to figure it out. I hope he proves me wrong and shuts me up of course. I still really like Max Power, I'm just realistic about these things.

I would count Sam Bennett as an offseason acquisition, so at least he's impressed. Still can't believe we ended up landing him at 4th overall. Major coup.
Other than that, I wouldn't worry about the vets. As has been mentioned several times, seasoned NHL vets know how to pace themselves through the preseason so that they peak when it counts. The rookies can't do that because they (like it or not) don't have the job security that the older guys have.
What I like about the offseason acquisitions is that they're all secondary players. None of them are the kind of guys who would complain if a Gaudreau or Bennett eventually supplanted them in the top 6.

Are you implying that I am being unrealistic? I don't expect much—if any—offensive progression for Reinhart at the AHL level this year, but I do think that he probably still has lots of room to grow his style of game to be an effective NHL player—the kind of player that the Flames hoped for and will need in the near future.

No. Why so sensitive? Replace the word realistic with pessimistic then.

Halloween is when you can start IMO. The first month of a season can be pretty hinky league wide with players getting into midseason form

Yeah the new acquisitions haven't been overly impressive, but neither have the returning vets. Nature of the beast that the new toys are more noticeable in preseason. I do think that the cuts are coming and hopefully the team as a whole round into shape. Let's see all of the players playing in their intended role before passing judgement.

I thought Hiller has looked pretty solid. Seto is terrible though.

If Bollig can kill penalties the way he looked last night, he's a great addition.
Setoguchi though...he has to be given more time, but I'll also say he hasn't done anything to really impress me thus far. Still waiting to be impressed.

Setegouchi had a full season of borderline NHL play with the Jets .... very hard to imagine him somehow finding a switch to get back to his San Jose level of 3 full seasons ago.
He is a better situation than the guy he replaces as Stempniak was on a bigger contract and was somehow guaranteed a spot in the the top-6.

People writing off vets two after two pre-season games are way out of line.
Every player who ever played the game - including Gretzky and Orr - has looked positively useless over a two, three or four game stretch. And most vets look bad in camp most of the time. This is not new. Yet the conversations are the same every September.
Guys, the vets are not playing with intensity yet - the season is (at least) 6 months long.

I don;t think he gets to say he is replacing Stempniak. I think Raymond gets to make that claim.
Setegouchi needs to bump a skill player and he seems to have been outplayed by rookies thus far.
However, I think you evaluate veterans in his situation on the last week of camp and first few weeks of the season. But pressure is mounting that's for sure.

Setoguchi to was signed for basically the minimum. It isn't going to effect any future free agents if he's cut/sent down. His options were sign with the Flames for 750k or go somewhere else on a PTO.
Its not like next year some guy is going to decide to turn down a contract to earn real money versus a try out because Setoguchi had to play in the AHL for his $750,000.
That said - I doubt they send him down to start the year.

Agree on this. Its good that Reinhart has scored points in the AHL but he's not getting that role in the NHL. He's not going to have a top line/PP role in the NHL.

Engelland, Bolleg, Hiller have been good additions. I was at the Oiler game and I liked what I saw from Brookbank not sure I think he is on a pto. Setoguchi has shown a few flashes but often gets bumped off the puck.
Raymond has been blase and lastly Diaz should be cut.
