Wasn't the knock on Markstrom that he's not dedicated enough to his conditioning?
The Canucks said they had to strip down his game after the trade and that's one reason Lack played every game until they were eliminated.
If Markstrom's been around the NHL this long and not wiling to get in shape, I'd pass.

Would be pretty freaking hilarious if Florida does pick him up. Basically Luo for Shawn Matthias straight up. Wow.

You can, but any team that had lower priority but also put in a claim the first time around gets first dibs. Otherwise, it's the same process - player has to clear before you can send them down.
And this move was inevitable from the moment Miller signed. Markstrom was bad in the past, he is bad in the present, and he will be bad in the future. Odds are that he'll be back in Europe next year.

Well it's straight up that anyway since they are waiving him. So basically Luongo at 85% for Matthias.
There's no way though Florida would pick him up again since brought Montoya to backup Luongo.

sorry this wasnt clear, my thought was perhaps the team was being asked to peruse that option by the player/agent. See that happen all the time.

Don't know about that but simply put he just isn't good lol... Awful positioning and mental mistakes that resulted in awful goals has been the story with him since I can remember.

Yup. Now we get to see how much he plays in the AHL.

Doubt anyone claims him.

ya that is the thinking, put him through now when every team seems to have their goalies set
I think the hope is Markstrom develops enough in the minors that they can make him the backup next year and then if he ever reaches his potential the guy when Miller's contract is done
Which would mean Lack becomes movable, Jason Botchford said Winnipeg is interested

The player goes to the next team with priority that put in a claim when he was originally waived.

Good. I'd much rather see him light us up on Winnipeg than on Van.

Oh so this is why Gillis was fired. I wasn't sure.
I think Markstrom might actually clear waivers, decent chance.

Florida is known to be awful at developing prospects, I can't think of the last blue-chip prospect that was well developed in that system. There were rumblings that Markstrom didn't have a goalie coach or much in the way of support in Florida and that his development just stalled as a result.
Right now I doubt that he achieves anything in the way of the potential that he had when he was 19-20 years of age.

No one was going to claim this guy no matter when they put him on waivers. I get the face saving attempt by the Vancouver media, but come on, no one is going to have this guy in the NHL this year.
