But big prior to 2010, just meant a heavy brick. Bigger now means a larger screen, and not always heavier.
With cell phones it was always an issue of how much function could you cram into a tiny space. Now there's an actual use to having a larger phone, as it means a larger screen.
I think the next step will be a flip phone of some kind and a flexible screen. You'll get the best of both worlds.

I don't know if that will be doable with any kinds of material that we have today. Any material that you can fold will eventually fail after enough folds, so I'm not sure how they get past that limitation with a flexible screen

Simple, just have a hinge in the middle and fold it in half. I can't believe they haven't done this yet. You could do it with tech from 2008.

Hearing rumors that there may indeed be a 5.2" version of the N6 coming out. That would be more along the lines that I would want, 5.9" seems a little to big.

Well, these images are creations that are based off of information we have received, just like every other “leak” you have seen over the last couple of weeks. With that said, we have confidence in presenting these in-house made renders of what we believe the Nexus 6, made by Motorola, will look like from the back in both white and black.
**SPOLIER for SIZE**
|
So the smaller Nexus 6 is just going to be a rebranded Moto X (2014)??

I'm not a fan of Motorola so I don't see me swapping out my n5 for the new version when its released.
I've been window shopping the Xperia Z2 and HTC One M8 along with debating whether or not to ask for an invite on the One Plus One.
So far I'm leaning towards the z2 as the dust free and waterproofing is a big selling point with me right now. If they only made a google play version.

You may want to consider the Z3 then as Sony is going to be providing AOSP roms for those. i.e. Straight from Google.
Oneplus is also a great choice as well... Cyanogenmod makes it so it's close to stock Google, but with some added features.

Yeah the Z3 comes out on October 31 for basically all the carriers. I'm pretty sure that's my next phone (I want the compact, but I'd probably settle for the regular one if the compact isn't available).

If you plan on rooting or flashing a custom ROM, be warned the camera will be degraded because the custom Sony image processing software will become disabled. The officially supported AOSP rom will not be affected by this
Quote:
WARNING: When unlocking the bootloader of the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact the quality of the images taken in low light with the camera will be degraded. It seems like some proprietary image processing stop working when the DRM keys are missing.
The bad thing is that Sony does not mention that the quality of the images produced by the camera will be affected on their developer site, they talk in general that they do not support custom ROMs
"Please be aware that Sony cannot guarantee the full functionality, and will not be responsible, for any unsigned custom ROM being flashed to your device after the boot loader is unlocked. An unsigned custom ROM may not have gone through the thorough tests that we run for each device and software version that we release.
Also, a custom ROM might not work properly on your device, and certain functions and offerings may cease to work. The performance of the device might also be affected, and you may damage your device permanently. In worst case, unlocking the boot loader will cause physical injuries or material damage, for example, due to the device overheating.
Certain pre-loaded content on your device may also be inaccessible due to the removal of DRM security keys. The secure user data partition may also become inaccessible, and you will not be able to get any more official software upgrades if you unlock the boot loader"

Good. That means the resell price of the Nexus 5 will drop even more. Gonna be able to get one for $100! Still a heck of a phone for that price.

You can get them for $250 right now from tons of different sellers.

Right and I doubt they go less than $200. Just looked on Kijiji and the best price I saw was $150 with a cracked screen. Even when the 6 comes out, I doubt people go below $200 unless they really need the drinkin' money.

If that's the case, that's a crazy price. The Nexus 5 is still a very relevant and good phone. Nothing I have thrown at my 5 has given it an issue at all, not to mention Android L being sent via update right away.
