Deal makes sense for both sides.
Here's hoping Justin gets a lot of useless second assists and can take them to the bank next year.

Well to win the Norris you have to put up a lot of points, so technically he's right. Schultz could put up Mike Green-like numbers, and only the Oilers will let him play that way.

Guess that puts me in the running for the Norris as well.
Awesome, I'd like to thank Mr Edwards my third grade teacher, Ed the talking donkey, oh and my parents for deciding to procreate and I'd also like to thanks . . . .

Because you sit in a room with Kevin "6 cups" Lowe, Mullet head the homer owner, his fro'd up son, and an internet stat nerd/troll.
Seriously, you can't make stuff up, never change EDM.

A pure offensive defenceman can win the Norris, we've seen that.
But Justin Schultz isnt even half the player Erik Karlsson or PK Subban are. Not even close.

What a stupid thing for him to say. The pressure is already being felt up North and now they throw out the Norris word, which puts even more pressure.

I was hoping for the Oiler standard 6x6.

Of course. But he isn't even a top ten point producing defenseman, and never will be. Well MAYBE top ten, never top five. And if you're going to win solely based on points, you better run away with it.
MacTavish's statement is insane no matter how you look at it. Even in a weak year for candidates, Schultz should not get a nomination. Ever.

The Blues just released a statement saying how they think Butler has Norris Trophy potential as well!

To be fair he is 24. Gio just had his first elite season at 30.

And Gio didn't even get nominated. See what I mean? Even Gio isn't there yet.
A lot of the defensemen that win or nominated have had huge offensive seasons by then. Karlsson, PK, Dion. Schultz has had success, but not years like any of those guys. Basically half the output of those guys big years. So no, he's not going to blow up all of a sudden. To win solely on points, he's going to need 20+ goals and 60+ points. Again, he has half that. And those guys were that age or younger.
I dunno, you can just tell that a Norris is out of his reach. He's not good enough offensively, and he's really not good enough defensively. Even if he improves, which I would argue, isn't a for sure thing, he still has a LONG way to go to even be in the conversation.
So even at age 24, MacTavish is clearly just giving the guy an attaboy. Or he's insane. Or both. But he's dead wrong. He could be a top pairing on a bad team (not that he's even there now) and a mid pairing on a good team. But Norris potential? Not. Even. Close.

I won't say that Shultz can't develop and eventually win a Norris trophy or two, but to make that statement at this point is not only premature, but is just asking for ridicule.
The only reason that nobody disagrees with MacTavish is because their jaw drops and they are just trying to figure out if he is making some sort of a joke. You know, that uncomfortable silence when people are trying to detect sarcasm.

Is MacT the same guy who said half the GM's would trade their own roster for the Oilers roster, or was that Mister 6 Rings?

If Schultz is a Norris trophy candidate, what does that make Gio?

Justine Schultz isn't even half the player Gio or TJ is. There is no one that would trade either of them straight up for the bag of suck that is Justine Schultz.
No one he talks to is disagreeing with MacT because he only talks to Six Rings and Pretty Hair Eakins. No one outside of Edmonton thinks Schultz has Norris potential, other than (as others have said) by playing as a D man in the NHL he is technically eligible.
