So you and your wife have done good financial management to the point you can buy this car straight cash (homey), and she's worried about what others who don't have good financial management think? Maybe it's me but I wouldn't give a good #### what others who can't manage money think. I'd be more concerned that Cadillac is owned by GM and GM has had to recall millions of cars lately.

So if you don't buy the car you still have the money for it. Are you going to worry about every single purchase you make with that money going forward? Get what you want.

I work for a concrete company and I'm in my 50's. I own a CTS.
Does that make me pretentious?
Buy what you like.

Buy the nicer car, and don't worry about what others think. However, if this is less philosophical and more practical about the actual model, then I would ask you, do you like massive blindspots? How do you feel about odd window placement? If you are in favor of both or either, then the SRX is for you.

Nearly signed a deal for a 2013 SRX, and thought it was the cats meow until I test drove a Q5. It was like going from a big lumbering box that was nearly impossible to see out, to an SUV that drove like a nice sedan.

I'd explore other options, unless you're getting a wicked deal.

The biggest thing is where we live is about 200 km from the city, I would not trust service or maintenance of a european car to any shop or "garage" in town. We have the big 3 to chose from for dealers. The view out of the SRX is very smiilar to what she has now, but sits up higher so it seems better.

Aren't there better quality vehicles for the money?

...Said the guy stuck in 1992. GM has come a long way - Nothing wrong with the modern caddies, especially for the discount you get on them vs. the import competition. Do you want an import with zero features (backup camera, BLIS, park assist, etc) or a loaded Caddy?

Personally I found the Explorer to be the better vehicle between the two, but just get whatever you like, ignore any brand stigmas.

I didn't take it as an insult, just a flippant response that was not helpful. But, lets just avoid needless conflict

Depends on the type of work your wife does. If it's a standard office type job then buy whatever the heck you guys want. Might be a few colleagues with bees in their bonnets for a few weeks, but ultimately how you spend your money is none of their damn business.

However, if your wife is in a supervisor type role in the retail/service industry where a bigger gap might exist between front line staff & management you might want to reconsider.

Basically I'd be more concerned about possible blow-back from a 22 year old server/dishwasher working the night shift then generic office "Karen in support services" type person.

Who cares what somebody else thinks. Jealousy in what other people purchase sometimes drives other people to work harder so they can afford the better things in life aswell. Your financial well being/stability is nobodys business but your own. Buy whatever makes you happy.

I honestly don't think Cadillac is a pretentious brand at all. It might have been at one time, but now with half the market being "luxury" brands it's hard to be pretentious.

Personally I would skew to the Ford just because I believe it to be a more reliable brand than GM.

I am perfectly happy with the 2013 SRX. I don't care about any reliability issues because I am only keeping it for the lease term, then flipping it. Yes, the Audi was a sweet drive, as mentioned above, but I didn't get it because they refused to negotiate anything. Just a point of principle for me. I would never get an Explorer again.

Took it back this morning and left a deposit, pick it up tomorrow. The wife really likes it and I do to, eventhough we are not old enough to drive a Cadillac.

On a side note, is anyone looking for a 2003 Pontiac Vibe?
