Raymond - Backlund - Colborne is going to be a fun line

Hopefully Backs has been working on his face offs not a bad line if he could get that clicking next season.

I really wouldn't mind seeing him used at centre again sometimes. Whatever it takes to get him in front of the goal crease. He's got amazing hands, and with his size he should be able to mix things up & make life difficult for defenders.

One of Feaster's best moves was picking this guy up. So much potential.

Whoopsie, I forgot Monahan was Colborne's center, not Backlund. Either line won't be that bad though. Good two way lines with speed, skill and size

Glencross - Backlund - Byron would probably be a much better line.

All three players have shown an ability to play good to tough competition and push the puck the right way.

This is awesome. The only thing that makes this even better is that we got him pretty much for free from the leafs. I guess Burke saw something in him that he really liked and it's paying off, kinda makes you think Burke knows what he's talking about sometimes.

Glencross - Backlund - Hudler makes a lot of sense to me.

Hard-working 2-way pivot between our 2 best offensive weapons in Glenny & Hudler. It's as close to a "scoring line" as we're gonna get this year.

Colborne was great on Monahan's wing last year. I suspect they'll stick together, with one of Raymond/Baertschi/Gaudreau on the opposite wing.

Imagine if Jankowski pans out & Colborne moves back to C:

Bennett 6'
Monahan 6'2"
Jankowski 6'4"
Colborne 6'5"

THAT is a good-sized spine to our team.

Don't forget Knight 6'2" and Arnold 6'0", who should play at 215-220 pounds. You start to look at some of the beef on the wings as well, and this is getting to be a pretty formidable team from a size perspective.

They are passable. Boomer isn't on the show for his sports knowledge as he just isn't a sports guy and yeah Pinder is really out there with some of his opinions.

I got to work before they got to Colborne but Boomer was in his full glorious sarcasm mode for the first half hour.....could he have continued with Joe?

Seriously asking, I didn't hear any of it but I have a high tolerance for Boomer and similar sense of humour but even I am getting annoyed with the extent of it the last couple weeks. They need some actual news to talk about.

When isn't he? No they were calling Colborne replaceable and that Bouma was more important to the team (you can make a case for that for sure although I think Bouma is a little overrated by some fans and media). They both kind of dismissed him as a 24 year old plug.

Good point....i think it has amped up since they ran out of hockey news though lol.

Fair enough, safe to say most hockey fans in this town probably disagree with them. I think we are going to be very happy with this pick up as the seasons go by.

I like that line. And if that line works, you've got Sven, Sean and Jiri together.

About Colborne, the kid didn't start figuring out his role until the second half of the season. I guarantee he'll have a great year knowing his role as a RW and utilizing his size correctly. I hope he can hit 40 points.

Janko still looks pretty slender, so he still has lots of room to add bulk to his frame.

good to hear.

if he continues on the wing, which i think he should, i see him really becoming a JVR type player. Big body, not necessarily physical, but good hands around the net.

you could just see Colborne understanding more and more as the season went along how he can use his size and wingspan along the boards to protect the puck and make plays.

Hopefully the added bulk hasn't hindered his skating speed, as that will play a major role in his developing into a legitimate top6 forward at the nhl level.

I think in the long run, the Flames still haven't found their #1 RWer yet. Colborne will be the Flames' best 2nd line RW in the future imo.

You know who else was 6'4" and 220 lbs. but didn't play a particularly bruising style?

Dave Andreychuk

He had hands, a good shot, protected the puck well, became a net front specialist, and would throw the odd hit. Colborne has a similar skill set and could become a very good power winger (not necessarily at the level of Andreychuk) if he continues his path on right wing.

Until Colborne shows he's more than he was last year then he is easily replaceable. It was only his first full season in the NHL, but he needs to improve to be anymore than a marginal 3rd liner.

I'm hoping Poirier will turn out to be that 1st line RW and that Colborne will be a solid #2.
